What's new

George Hill coming to Utah

I'll take the #3 and #16 for Hayward, Max Harrison Barnes, run the offense thru Hood. And I wouldn't do this deal for 12.. There'd still be $$ to sign Conley or another max player.

The end result of next season is the same ---- the Jazz lose.. except the team is much younger 3 new rookies to develop and they'll have a btter chance to land a top pick in a better draft.. and they wont be on the hook to pay Hayward 30,000,000..

I have patience though.. To me this move signals the Jazz are choosing to take baby steps.. When I gamble, I like to go big (like the D-Will to NJ trade)

This trade is Tyson Chandler to the Knicks status IMO.

Welcome back. I'm glad you are here for draft drama.

I was a little worried about the value of this trade(I do like Hill and think he is a great fit). Although we have not heard all the details since we know there is more to this deal not reported yet and it might make this deal look even better. I am relieved since this team doesnt need more young players and they wont help us for a couple years anyways and we have plenty of them, plus we need more veterans. But PGAB hating this trade so much and thinking we got ripped off comforts me a bit and makes me think it is a good deal. It is also great to have players that want to be in Utah, like the staff and like the other players. Chemistry is important.

Or worse.

Stinks to lose an "assett", but at some point you just need to win. The Jazz are at that point, and this trade helps them to win this year. I'm OK with it. Jazz have 2 picks next year and in 2018 to build for the future, and DL has been great at finding late round gems. Hopefully they can re-sign Hill in the offseason, which makes this trade a better trade.

This officially marks the first move in years Jazz have made to show our asset collection phase/ rebuilding phase is over and we are now in WIN MODE. I think this is a sign of an effort to win and our game strategy, lineups, trades and everything else will reflect that as opposed to the past.

the summer of 2017 has the greatest free agent PG crop of all time.. Yet the Jazz are paying a premium (lottery pick) for a rental one year early --- That's totally what just happened here..

and apparent;y the lowly 76ers are the one that ran the price up/created some need to pull the trigger on this deal before the draft.. LOL

Should've just paid Rondo for 1 season.

The best crop of PGs in 2017 isn't going to be ripe until 2019. So who gives a flying **** how good a bunch of PGs might be who will be in the 2017 draft class. Seriously, how far down the road are teams supposed to kick the can? Your brilliant strategy would be to roll the dice next year, hope to hit double sixes and then develop that for a couple years, then put the right players around whatever we have at that point and start really competing in like 2022?

Ain't nobody got time for that!

I don't mind a championship or nothing mentality. But #12 is not going to get us that championship. So why not try to push what we have? That or really blow it up going for #1s.

This is where I'm at and is why I'm a little confused by people who don't like the trade and think we should have waited to "sign him in free agency" next summer.

Anyone we draft at #12 is not going to contribute significantly for a few years (they would probably struggle to even get on the court).

With this move we add some quality depth to our bench. Instead of Ingles, Neto/Burke, and Chris Johnson coming off the bench, we're looking at Hill, Burks, and Lyles coming off the bench all year.

We won 40 games with really bad PG play and not only do we get X back to start, we have quality at his backup spot that can play D and shoot the 3-pointer.

Nice move.

As far as the draft, we have a number of 2nd rounders. Everything coming from poeple who follow these prospects closely is that 1-2 is teir 1 and 3-8 is tier 2 and then 9-25 is the next one so there is huge question marks after #8.

The Jazz have snagged some good players mid-late 1st round so i have come to trust them (Lyles, Hood, Gobert to name a few) and believe they saw the droppoff after #8 and figured this helps us now and if they like someone enough I bet they could use their 2nd rounders and cash to move into the late part of the first round to snag a player (like they did with Gobert).

If they didn't go this route, the other way I'd want to go is what you said, which is to move players to get the #2.

I've seen posts about moving Hayward for the #3 and maxing Barnes but that is less intriguing to me than what we just did.

Like I said, I'm happy with this.

While you are likely right no one knows how good #12 will be.

He was talking about free agency, not the draft, but he also thinks we should max Harrison Barnes.

Oh and to your second point is there a chance in hell that the jazz could have a good playoff team this coming season and keep the #12 pick without getting hill? Could the jazz get a free agent this summer?

Yeah, would have rather gone this route. Batch of unrestricted free agents is not to great though. Rondo and Conley almost no chance to get them. Other guys out there include: Lin, E Moore, Delly, Felton, DWill, Augustin, Lawson, N Cole, B Jennings, Ish Smith, and Sessions. Also at least one or two interesting guys from overseas including Malcolm Delaney.

None of them as good as Hill. Not anywhere close.

Source: Jazz still trying hard to deal Trey Burke, if no takers, they'll still guarantee Mack's $2.5M and negotiate buy out of Burke's $3.5M

Why are the Jazz telegraphing this? That almost guarantees they are going to have to eat his contract. Why not say something like "We think Trey is a valuable part of our team, has a great upside and is in our long-term plans."?

One of @PG_AB ideas on how to improve the team, until he sucked in the finals and dude started deleting his posts. Typical of him.

Did he seriously delete his posts so that he wouldn't look dumb? That's dumb.
