Smartphones to replace computers soon

Salty is right.
Just today my IT tech just came and replaced my laptop with an iPhone 4.
They installed Microsoft Office, and all that, and gave me a travel mouse and keyboard to go with it, and a docking station.
I'm making the final adjustments now, and moving the files over.
Ahhhhh advancement.

Swyped from my iPhone 4

iPhone 4? No. iPhone 5? Doubtful. iPhone 6? Probably. iPhone 7? Absolutely.

When I saw this during the Superbowl I immediately thought of certain parties that shall remain nameless. I LOL'd.

You guys know I had to update this thread after Steve Jobs declared that we are now entering the "post pc" era. Ironic that he would make such a claim while announcing a device that requires a computer to sync. The boatload of Android devices hitting the shelves this year don't require a computer though. And HP said all of their future computers will also have webos (palm's os).

Also ironic considering Apple is beefing up their laptop development as well.

You know, twenty years from now Salty is going to be like, "Neener neener, I told you douchebags!" and you're gonna be like, "Oh man...".

You should really try being nice for a change.

Fixed that for you. If it really goes 20 then it will be the other way around.

Then why are they continuing to produce them in mass quantity?
They produced desktops in mass quantity over the last few years too. It doesn't mean they expected the average user to choose one over a laptop for their computing needs.

Jobs flat out said the post pc era was upon us. The first ipad was the best selling device of all time. Yes, they will still make laptops. But I will take bets on if any of those laptops outsells the ipad 2. And remember, there are dozens, if not hundreds, of Android tablets that are all selling/expected to sell very well too. And there is still the Blackberry tablet and the WebOS tablet.

I agree that Steve Jobs exaggerated a bit by saying the post pc era was here (while introducing a product that requires a computer to sync). But it is becoming more and more clear that in 4 years we really will be in a post pc era.

You don't need a computer to sync any of those other tablets. And critics are already blasting Apple for requiring the ipad2 to sync using a computer. You can bet that is on their radar of things to fix in a future update or version.

It wouldn't be post PC, it would be a flat PC with a touchscreen. How would carrying one of those around be different than carrying around a laptop?
It is a laptop with a touchscreen with an application to type on the screen.

Your original statement had nothing to do with one outselling the other? You said replace. If I replace my girlfriend, she's gone. Obviously the definition's not that black and white but you get the point. The general notion is that, according to you, laptops will be obsolete and that's simply not the case. Laptops will still be used by the masses and these gadgets of which you speak will sell at record rates, just like cell phones have for years prior, because yes, it's a useful tool so to speak, but moreso because it's something new and hip and relatively cheap.

They even say as much in commercials.
