The issue here as explained by the authors of the two articles cited, is that for nearly two dwcades the GOP has:
1. Preached anti-intellectualism
2. Xenophobia
3. Anti-elitism
4. Obstructionism
Their candidate embodies these ideals. He wants to wreck the entire system. Make America great again by rejecting the old.
Moderates, party leaders, and big donors cannot control this monster and are running away from it in droves. Just look at trump's campaign donors (or lack thereof). Look at how congressional leaders stay away from him. And look at how writers like George Will have rejected the party altogether.
To compare this to Hillary Clinton? It's silly.
She's a politican, not a reality tv star.
She doesn't campaign on outrageous things; building walls, deporting or banning races, religions, or ethnicities.
She doesn't make fun of intellectuals or deny science.
She has no problem with campaign funding or receiving congressional endorsements from both moderates and those farther to the left.
In short, trump is a wrecking ball for the GOP. A monster which they, party leaders and the media, has created over the course of two decades.
Clinton? Isn't that. Not even close.
