Love me some Gobert!

Ya, you highlight the post the want to report and then click on the drop down menu (the 3 dots in the upper right corner).

Welp, looks like I know which sleeved jersey to buy now.
I already done told y'all Rudy is a jazz lifer.

I'm just happy it got done, what was the point in waiting? We knew he was going to get multiple max offers so no need to wait for that to occur. We get a super slight discount which may or may not really help us out in the future, but more so it just further shows our commitment to Rudy and the rest of the roster that the focus is keeping this team in tact and doing their best to win now.

So true. The player AK was before, and after was night and day. The pre-deal AK was such a game changer, and so much fun to watch. The post deal AK was trying to watch someone change who they were, and not be as good at it. He never again changed the game as much as he did before he maxed out.

I think what DL said in the interview was positive. The talked with Rudy, and they dont want him to change his game because of the deal. We signed him for defense, rebounding, and dunks. They agreed he will try and get better with those skills rather than change his game.
I listened to that interview with DL about the Rudy signing too. Good stuff

A new and injured jazz team on a brutal schedule.

Next 3 are tough:

@ Spurs - today
v Mavs - tomorrow
v Spurs - Friday

Fortunately the road trip gives us a legit chance to go 5-0

It was known that this was going to be a rough opening two weeks as soon as Hayward and Favors went down. It amuses me to watch people freak out about something we all knew was going to happen.

Best part is that most of these same people will be declaring they were first on the wagon and always supported these players when the Jazz start winning.

Breath and enjoy the ride. We barely pulled out of the driveway. Long way to go.

As for Gobert, I already own his green jersey. But I'm not sure I can wear it anymore as I am not a true center. Might be awkward.

Kind of seems like this post is in the wrong thread

Any talk of Rudy pulling an AK is just ridiculous. AK liked basketball...Rudy loves it and wants to tear people's hearts out of their chest and show it to them. If he stays healthy this is a great day for the Jazz and Rudy... the hero we need but don't deserve.

Sources: Only $90M of Rudy Gobert's $102M extension guaranteed. $3M in annual bonus incentives

That's even better.

Reports are that Gobert's contract only has 90 mil guaranteed. Is that normal in basketball? I know this is common in the NFL. I want to know if Gobert cut the Jazz a break here. Also read that there are no options on his deal. He will be here for 4 more seasons.

There are probably no options, but they can have incentives in the contract. I don't know what they are in this case(whether it's as simple as "stay in SLC for 1 month in the summer to work on your game" or they might be tied to performance and/or games played).

I saw that there are 3 million in incentives but it doesn't say what they are.

I'm still hanging on for Hayward to sign his new contract and get that. I think when you think of Utah you think of Hayward more so than Gobert.

I do not think Hayward will re-sign. My guess is it depends on this year. If we are a Top 4/5 seed, he may stay.
If we miss playoffs or sneak in as the 8 seed I bet he walks.

We'll See. Boston seems real.

We can give 5 years and more money...but will we......

So it is 90 million guaranteed with 3 million in annual incentives. That is the remaining 12 million (3 mill in incentives a year over 4 years = 12 million).

So question. What counts towards the cap? 90 million? 102 million? Or 90 million + the amount of incentives he actually earns?

That's awesome. I've long been of the opinion that more NBA contracts should be done with at least minor incentives.

No, it's not common at all. It can be done, but usually the player doesn't go for it even in the case when the incentives seem like they will be obviously met. So Rudy definitely cut the Jazz a break, in my opinion.

If I recall correctly it depends on whether the incentives are categorized as "probable" or "not probable" by the NBA. If they are probable, then they count towards the cap. If they are not probable, then they don't. In this case we don't know what the incentives are, but it seems almost certain to me that they would fall into the probable category. I can't see Rudy agreeing to hard to reach incentives, he had too much leverage in this negotiation.
