Official UofU homer thread

If Utah is pissed off about the bowl game they're playing in, or the opponent they are playing, maybe they should try not losing to Cal and Oregon. IMO, they deserve exactly what they ended up with.

So ending the season #19 overall gets you a 6-6 team? I think they have something to complain about.

So is USC gonna throttle Penn State? Bowl games are so much about who is motivated because they have something to play for. I see this game as Penn State not being in the Final Four and therefore less to play for. USC on the other hand wants to continue their streak and finish strong going into next year when a NC has to be on their mind.

Pen State got lucky. Would you rather have a chance against USC or get throttled by Alabama?

Utah finished the season with 1 more win last year and ended up in Vegas. Utah had 10 maybe 11 in them this year had they had a competent OC. 8-4 is more disappointing than drawing Indiana by a mile.

Hill should be calling Mark Helfrich to sit him down with Whittingham for lunch. He should offer them both a piece of humble pie, tell them that they were made for each other, give them suitcases full of cash, and tell them to make it work.

STill, you have 20th ranked (7-4) LSU getting 13th Louisville.

21st ranked Tennessee (also 8-4 w/ some worse losses than Utah) gets a 9-3 Nebraska team.

I know geographic location has a lot to do with this, but just felt like they could have given Utah, a good Pac-12 team, a more deserving opponent.

I'm fine with the bowl, I'm fine with the opponent.

The way the cards lined up as far as team selection, the Utes went to a better bowl than I expected - I really thought Foster Farms was going to take Stanford again. And once we were put in the bowl, it's an obligation for a team from a specific conference.

So could we have gotten a better team? Sure. But the Big 10 had big representation in the NY bowls with 3 teams. We were to be sent the 5, 6, or 7 team from the conference. We got the 9th, but keep in mind the NY bowls. If the Big 10 had a flat year we could have had Iowa, Nebraska, or Minnesota.

Given the overall situation, there's no way I'm bitching about either the bowl or the opponent.

Utah should go the opposite direction. We're not a spread team and Whitt is certainly too queasy to bring in a guy like Helfrich and let him run a spread like it's supposed to be run.

Utah needs to finally step away from the folly of "we want to be a spread team", get a Fullback with some bigger TE's, and start lining up in the Pro Set and Power I. It's an offense that Utah can actually be successful with because it actually plays into our HC's strengths (or weaknesses). Mark my words, Utah is going to be a lot better off as soon as they figure out they need to stop trying to be Oregon, and embrace their inner Stanford.

I'm not endorsing a system so much as I am endorsing a big name, someone who as an OC lead a team to the CFP. I want someone who will not be afraid to tell Whitt,"**** you, that's dumb, we're not doing that, you're being a wimp, you suck at offense and developing quarterbacks and stuff, pay attention maybe you'll learn something, stay in your lane."

While I've spent the past 6 years hoping for that EXACT scenario, I've finally came to grips with the fact that Whitt has a much more fragile ego than we give him credit for. It's never going to happen because Whitt will never allow it to happen. The man knows EXACTLY what is holding Utah back from taking the next step and yet he willfully avoids doing those things because it means it won't be done "his way".

Like I said in an earlier post: I'm to the point of just hoping Utah can continue to win 8/9 games a year and continue to beat BYU. I'd like to say BYU isn't important anymore, but Utah keeps making them important so long as they don't start winning any PAC South titles. We've hit our ceiling under Whitt and the reality is, he can keep this job for as long as he wants it.

If those 2 are as good as advertised, this team could be surprisingly competitive. I was pretty impressed with how they competed at Xavier.
How is the bball team doing so far anyway? Are they a tourney team in your opinion?

As they are right now, without Bealer and Collette, I don't think so. Close, but I just don't think so. Maybe NIT.

With Bealer and Collette... I guess we'll have to wait and see :) From what I hear about those two, especially Bealer, I think we may be in for some fun times!

I haven't checked on their record in a while but last time I checked it was 6-1 iirc, so that's pretty good.

They lost some good players from last year though.

Really though, you should have a good team this year again. Krisco is a pretty decent coach in most areas, and if I want to watch a team in Utah play defense I can always watch the Utes or Jazz.

Do you think they'll be enough of an adddition to put you over the top against Prarie View?

Looking at the field for the Diamond Head Classic in Hawaii it looks like Utah should be the favorite to win, San Diego State has looked bad lately.
