Exum Defense vs Bucks - Video

this ain't "hate," kid. It's a video. Of what actually happened.

Both those plays are late in the 4th quarter with the Jazz up by 23.

But sure, Dante is the first player ever to play lazy defense late in a game during a blowout.

Usually when you're struggling to get pt, you try your best to win over the coaches and instill confidence that you deserve more pt. The score is irrelevant. Dante's attitude and poor effort are relevant. Playing lazy and stupid is a poor method of encouraging the coaches to play you more.

Guess you were never coach, Cappy. You need to instill good habits in your players. Quin letting this go, would've given the wrong signal. As even Locke said in his last podcast, Dante needs to man up. Some of you said he has been aggressive but I've been seeing him getting abused and not fighting back, similar to what happened to Gordon way back when Delonte West taunted him. But Gordon has certainly turned that around. Let's hope Dante does the same, and no I disagree about Dante shooting in the paint when he's open. He drives to the basket, yes, and shoots at the rim, but he seems to lack the confidence to shoot those type of shots that Shelvin does. I don't know how many times I've seen him with an open shot in that area and toss it out to someone who had to rush a Hail Mary to beat the shot clock.

20 pts up with 5 minutes to go. Why not let him play out the game and show him the footage after the game. Or use a timeout and spend the entire timeout talking to him.

I agree with this approach

Send Dante to to whatever league Delonte is playing in now and let nature run it's course. Delonte's finger will surely find it's way into Dante's ear eventually. Within five years Dante will be an all-star.

Compare it to Rudy playing in a meaningless rising stars challenge and destroying everyone. The care factor.

I'm not sure what the fuss is all about.

It wasn't that bad, Exum may have overplayed it a little but he got back and contested the shot.

I actually just saw Isiah Thomas do the exact same thing twice today in consecutive plays, its not uncommon for guards to get screened and then lose a little sense of direction.

Whats the hate for Exum all about, he plays stuff all minutes but people criticise every move, whilst George Hill escapes any negativity about is poor play recently.

Isaiah Thomas is one of the worst defensive players in the league. If you're comparing Dante to his defense, then you have statistically one of the worst offensive players in the league being compared to one of the worst defensive players in the league.

Ouch.

Isaiah Thomas gets away with it since he is I think statistically THE best offensive player in the league, better ranked than Harden and Westbrook.

OP forgot to post the vid of the next play where Rudy/Hill left Maker even more open for his next 3 ....

I guess one could argue that both Hill and Rudy have a history of good d which gives them a pass.

The 26 games they have played together? Exum had 41 games starting and playing with Rudy his rookie year and they produced a higher level of defense during that time. There are also some statistics that point to Exum playing better defense this year over Hill and that Exum is better at defending the three point line. Dante holds players to 33.7% from 3 point line from players who normally shoot 36.1% (net -2.4) whereas Hill holds players to 39.6% on players that normally shoot 36% (net +3.6.) Which makes Hill our worst 3 point line defender of any of our perimeter players.

On those stats our best defensive lineup would be Exum, Burks, Hayward, JJ and Gobert.

Personally I think our best backup pg is mack followed by neto. I think Dante has the physical talents to be ELITE in the NBA but really... right now he is fringe 2ng sting at best.

That looked like pretty good D to me. Maker hit some tough shots. Dante's the man, yo! Go Jazz!
