James Dolan is a ****ing parasite in control of a regional monopoly, thats simply too big to fail and he's flaunting it, most of the very well-informed, loyal fanbase is voicing its displeasure in many different ways.
The Knicks can lose, their fanbase can lose, their players and staff can lose. James Dolan can't lose, and flaunts it. It's that simple, he didn't even put himself in that position - his father did. It's inevitable the Knicks will rise again, when they do he'll quickly increase ticket prices, merchandise will fly off the shelves, they'll paint the best player as mother teresa and the coach as einstein. Fans will quickly say "I waited my whole life for this" or since the 90's and pony up the $$$
The blunders of the Knicks often trickle down from Dolan, it's not an excuse, it's the truth, for a wide variety of reasons --- a key one of course being he's got final say on hirings and consistently they 1) get the wrong guy 2) overpay for his services/fire him early 3) look for someone even more expensive to pay...
He's absolved by many because he signs the checks but anyone with real business acumen knows; 1) the ability to adapt is of the utmost importance, there is very little evidence of this positive adaption with the Knicks in the 2000's, infact quite obviously it's been a long period of stagnation, and NOT learning from mistakes, which is actually hard to do in the NBA, you've got to go out of your way, far beyond the call of duty to achieve it.. They've basically just been trying to keep their heads above water since JVG left...
2) throwing more and more $$$ like bandaids at cyclical systemic issues instead of practicing discipline and patience to find long-term solutions in a low-risk manner. Their operation is terribly and obviously unsound, they still haven't figured this overpaid vets thing out, greenlighting that Noah deal. What a cherry on top of the Jackson era he is, the next Omer Asik.
3)In some twisted type of way he sees the value in losing. He's a dude who owned cablevision, he probably knows the value of an underdog story that he's IMO help fabricate thru his negative influence on the franchise.
