Apparently the food crisis there has gotten so bad that people are starting to kill and eat animals. Dogs, cats, donkeys...even giant anteaters and flamingos. Scavenging for anything discarded to try and eat.

That's crazy. At what point does it turn out of control violent? Will the world allow it to continue to head south or will it try to send in troops and supplies?

This is sad on multiple levels.

1) There is enough food out there to feed everybody. Just a distribution issue.

2) There are cheaper, more efficient crops that we can grow, but people are too scared of GMO labels to do anything. It's bad science.

go out there and talk to venezuelans!

real live venezuelans. seeing as i travel in south america, and going back there tomorow i get to talk to these people!
and you realise how libertarian principles is important.
i know this guy who had some guns. but in 2012 he had to turn them over to the government. no way to keep private ownership of guns. he protested to his family members and friend to get behind them but they kept making emotional pleas about yeah think of children that get murdered, guns cause missery, everythin will be ok. seeing as he was the lone voice he either could go to jail and nobody would protest. or he could turn them in.

the United nations PRAISED the Venezuelan gun ban. now the same un who praised this gunban, does not come to aid to these citizens, they are literally screwed. some who disobeyed the law an saved up foreign currency can escape this horror. and now live normal lives abroad.

others are not so lucky
other are forced to leave the country to become sex workers in the nearby south american countries. where they are held at "gunpoint" to work in brothels.
cant even escape because their pasport is confiscated by the pimps.

wanna see how bad it is, just go to any live webcam website. and you will see how many venezuelan people are, doing anything and everything for a buck. unprotected sex with groups of men on live chat. just to get some of that glorious liberty dollar.

whenever these sjw preach their leftist ********. no guns, free abortions, free education, free everything. they fail to realize that this is what it leads to.

i don't know if any of you know any Venezuelans. if you do reach out to them. talk to them and you will see how bad this is!

Why worry about things like this when we there are more important issues at stake, like making sure everybody knows Tom Bradynis a bigot. Gotta focus on the important things people.

Yay Socialism!

Plenty of successful socialist countries out there.

The problem is being a South American country whose primary export is oil. When the price for oil crashed, they had nothing else to offer.

Just to compare, Saudi Arabia, the top oil producer in the world saw its deficit skyrocket in the past year due to the price of oil dropping. Their unemployment is over 11 percent and per capita income shrunk last year.

I get that conservatives don't like facts. They tend to complicate their overly simplistic view of the world. But if we want to understand countries in the 21st century we need to study the global economy.

Go ahead snow flake. Dislike this post.

serious question .. are Saudi Arabia's people starving ?

Here is what google has to say:

Is Saudi Arabia a rich country?
An estimated 20 percent of the population, if not more, lives in crippling poverty. With its vast oil wealth, Saudi Arabia has one of the highest concentrations of super rich households in the world. But an estimated 20 percent of the population, if not more, lives in crippling poverty.

...

Prince Al Waleed bin Talal, Saudi Arabia’s richest investor, estimates that he has given several billions of dollars in charity over the past 30 years, much of it wired directly to the accounts of petitioners who apply to his office for assistance with paying back loans, buying a car or getting married. It’s not necessary, but most of those supplicants visit the prince in person as part of a weekly ritual dating back to the early days of the al Saud dynasty. They line up to deliver their requests. Several pause to recite poems in praise of his generosity.

I guess it's safe to say that socio-economical culture is just as important as the money itself for establishing social wealth.

They were experiencing massive inflation and food shortages when oil prices were high. Try again. Going into socialism, when you're a country with very little natural resources, is rather dumb. Capping prices on everything, is rather dumb. You, are rather dumb.

Hilarious!

So you admit that there are other factors than just "being socialist" that have effected Venezuela; such as capping prices, overtegulation, few exports other than oil, and having few other natural resources? Glad we cleared that up.

Oversimplifying a very complicated economic situation does nothing constructive. I get that many of you on the right are using ideology to form your reality aka dismissing facts by using "alternative facts." But again, let me reiterate, this does nothing constructive.

There are also other factors to consider. China and Brazil are among their top trading partners. The former has seen an economic slowdown and the latter has seen a full blown depression. Neither of which bodes well for a smaller and less wealthy country with fewer trading partners, such as Venezuela.

If just "being socialist" doomed countries to starvation, why isn't Finland, Sweden, or Canada starving like Venezuela?

Don't be dumb, snow flake.
