Two years from now, The Jazz's Championship rotation

To console myself to the lack of Jazz playoff action I was trying to think about in a couple of years what are rotation will look like on our way to the championship.

Personally I think we need an 8 1/2 man rotation. The 8 are all getting 20 plus minutes and the 9th rotation player will play as matchups dictate.

A few things that I expect to happen-

-Paul Millsap will continue to improve as SF/face-up PF in the NBA. He can improve his ball skills and defensive awareness on the perimeter.

-Tomic will not be a significant factor.

- Jeremy Evans is not going to put on weight. He hasn't manage to do so for 4 years in college and has not done so this year either. So he is what he is- a very athletic energy player.

- Raja Bell is going to continue to fade away

-Price and Watson will not be significant factors in 2 more years. Price isn't good enough and Watson will be 33.

-Fess is what he is. The 11th or 12th man on the bench if he is on an NBA team.

-Memo is done.

-Big Al will make small improvements.

So our core players will be:

Hayward SG/SF
Favors PF/C
Millsap PF/SF
Jefferson C/PF

Still under contract Bell and Harris.

That means that we still need to fill 4 spots.

We desperately need a starting PG.

We need a starting SG or SF- Hayward can play the other spot.

We will need one more big man sometimes.

Possible Rotation

Starting PG 35/ Harris 13
Hayward 35/ Harris 13
Starting SF 28/ Miles or AK 20
Favors 23 /Millsap 25
Jefferson 35/ Favors 13

Millsap and Harris are the core of a good bench.

So does that look like a contender to you?

If we can manage to get all those players plus 2 rookies under salary ill be very impressed. Regardless, it comes down to the lottery; this upcoming draft is the most important date of the Utah Jazz franchise in years.

Harris is fine, I am convinced by the arguments about top point guards not leading teams to the promised land. They take up a lot of money but at crunch time they cannnot get their own good shots, like Wade-Kobe-Dirk-Ginobli-Pierce kind of guys can: wing players with multiple skills. That is what the Jazz need to target. yes, maybe they have one with Hayward, but another can only help.

Second they still need interior defense big time. I still think Fes can be the guy, but we shall see. Big Al is not it and it not likely to progress to being it. A trade can be done.

Playing Sap at the SF just strikes me as idiocy. He is what, 20 years into his basketball career and all of a sudden he is going to go from being a power guy to a wing? Square peg, meet round hole. What he should be is a Big Baby kind of guys, your key big off the bench to score on the other teams second, shorter unit.

To me, we have a lot of pieces but we need to target a really great dynamic wing in the draft and then a defensive big from somewhere.

Millsap can 'go big baby' from with Forward position. I hope he does off the bench but against some matchups he if effect defensively as a SF too.

It gives us the flexibility to draft Derrick Williams or another PF prospect if they are available.

The problem is there aren't a lot of potentially dynamic wing prospects. Derrick Williams could be. Terrence Jones could be if he discover's Karl Malone's worth ethic. Barnes has a good chance of being very good and a small chance of being great.

Leonard strikes me a very good supporting player like Iguodala or Gerald Wallace potentially.

We need someone who can breakdown the defense and get into the paint/to the rim from the perimeter. I don't care if that is from the PG, SG or SF position.

Price will not be on the team next year nor will AK. The Jazz will pick uo Miles' option, but they'll either trade him or just let him walk at the end of the year.

I agree that Millsap should be the 6th man. He can dominate subs and get double-doubles off the bench. He can't do that against starters, nor can he provide the outside shooting we need from a SF. And there's no chance he can guard the quicker SF's in the league.

This draft has little depth at PG or SG. I'm hoping the Jazz draft either a SF at #6 or get more depth at the 4/5 and then take a wing at #12. Fes is never going to be serious player - he occasionally shows flashes, then jackpots around for the next 10 games. With 2 picks this season and two likely lottery picks next year (I don't see the Jazz overtaking any of the current WC playoff teams), the Jazz have a good chance to restock the team and/or use those assets to trade for solid veterans.
