Following potential 2017 draftees...

Lets say the Jazz hit a homerun in this draft with one of the picks and let's say that player is somewhere in-between Hood and Gobert in promise (looks like a potential starter for most teams in the league)

Which type of position and skillset would that player be to best help the Jazz?

Try to stay within the confines of this specific best-case scenario convo... Interested to hear opinions.. Remember to think of next years roster so u can even pair the pick with a FA to fill another hole.. U decide on Diaw's option..

I'm not saying the player will be ready to step in from day 1 and be full effectiveness either. Some could be given mulligans on the 1st year as long as they're ready to contribute later, and eventually they turn to a promising starter
I would say a Wes Matthews type of player would be the ideal for me. Some one who can come in play super solid defense with out compromising offense. Who can hit the open jumper.

The reason that is first off my mind is because JJ is getting old, Ingles might have priced himself out of the jazz range unless he give the jazz a discount. Burks has struggled with the jazz system and his role.

Second choice would be tweener either a 3/4 or a 4/5 that can stretch the floor but still rebound well. That can play along side either gobert or favs.

Diaw is not that player neither is Lyles.

If I had to identify who those players are give me a little time but the second choice that interests me is cam Oliver as 4/3. My biggest concern with him is BBIQ. I think he could play an AK

Watching last nights game and seeing at times how WCS was able to use his quick reactions and agility to maneuver to spots quickly and cause some issues made think about what it'd look like if the Jazz had a player like that in the mix.

I think a big who'd fit the mold well is Harry Giles. His saving grace at this point is his movement, it eases some concerns about his knee.. He IMO is one of the bigs that would benefit the most from playing next to a Rudy or Favors because they'd allow him to roam, and like WCS he gets to spots quickly.

Robert Williams is really the best option for this type of skillset but Giles is way more gettable. Motley is also very fast and gets to spots he's more of a wrecking ball than Giles though.
Giles right now is my ideal draft

Also, I have a hard time seeing Brooklyn pass up on Giles. They took Levert who was also had a long injury history. I think they more than any other team are looking to draft pure talent if it falls to them.

The jazz can bring him aling slowly and if he does over come the knee issues, he is young enough to, he is a home run pick

Yeah, but there are so many good players in this draft I would have a hard time justifying the pick. In most drafts it would be less of a penalty for missing where as in this one you might be missing out on future rotation players.

I could actually see them having Motley higher on their board... I posted not long ago I think they'll like him.. They like tough players that can contribute now..

They really like LeVert.. He looks damn good at times, they let him defend top options on the wing.. can do a bit of everything..

Giles looks to be moving around to at full speed. He's quick and agile, that says something about his knee. His issues are more strength related and those wouldn't be much of a concern on Utah given the depth..

Considering the price of the contract the Jazz will be paying the rookies, he'd be a damn good pick.
It is a swing for the fences pick

I'd argue he'd be a safe pick as long as he doesn't get red-flagged.. Harry can do some things, he's very coordinated.. He'll have a major chip on his shoulder too..

Justin Jackson 13th on DX's new mock.... (peculiar.. and ultimately good for the Jazz if true)

Terrance Ferguson back to 14 and the lottery (not a shock IMO)

Shake Milton, Bruce Brown, Mikal Bridges might fit the mold.. Jacob Evans, PJ Dozier Josh Hart, Svi Mykhailiuk, Tyus Battle and even Andrew White or Matisse Thybulle could be 2nd rd picks worth taking a flier on. and a super sleeper stash target is Adam Mokoka.
Second choice would be tweener either a 3/4
Tyler Lydon, TJ Leaf, Justin Jackson(Maryland). U also have Semi Ojeleye, Jonah Bolden, Devin Robinson Vince Edwards or Dedric Lawson in the 2nd.. and a stash candidates in Arnoldas Kulboka (or possibly Kurucs but I'd say he's more of a pure 3) Tadas Sedekerskis, Charalompoplous, Vezenkov.
or a 4/5 that can stretch the floor but still rebound well. That can play along side either gobert or favs.
Ivan Rabb, Zach Collins, Jarrett Allen, Caleb Swanigan, Jonathan Motley, Tony Bradley and Chemizie Metu. In the 2nd rd Cam Oliver, Moritz Wagner, Jordan Bell, Luke Kornet and stash Candidates; Jonathan Jeanne, Borisa Simanic, Alpha Kaba

Kennard moved up to #20 and Evans moved up to #33. Those two are my favorite players in this draft who I think can out perform their draft position. Evans will be in the first-round soon enough.

If Giles has one more ACL blow out he's probably done for good. That would be the only thing that scares me about Giles.

Do you not like Justin Jackson? I remember Locke saying the the Jazz loved him but he opted to stay in college for another year. I had a feeling he'd play himself into the lottery, but I still can't tell if I like him as a prospect or not.
