Official NJ Nets Watch

Pacers need to help us out by finishing AHEAD of the Jazz in the standings. After the Jazz win over Hornets, best we can hope for is a tie with the Pacers...

I thought the Pacers were in the playoffs. Doesn't that automatically keep them out of the lottery?

Sorry 'bout the Pacers posts; I obviously don't fully understand this whole lottery thing. I thought non-playoff teams draw for the lottery which is like the 1st 3 picks, and after that everyone else was seeded based on their W/L record, regardless whether they made the playoffs. Not so?

Teams out of the playoffs pick ahead of playoff teams, regardless of record.

Looks like the Kings are going to fall despite hanging with OKC for most of the game. Tyreke Evans didn't play and is questionable for the Laker game.

Marcus Thornton threw up 23 shots making just 8, that's the 2nd time in 3 games he's done that

Canceled out Cousins beastly game

With one game to go, Sac and NJ are tied and Washington is just one game back.

Assuming both Sac and NJ lose their final game, and Washington beats the Cavs, there'd be a three-way tie and a chance to move up from 6th to 5th or 4th.

Sac's last game is at home, against the Lakers.
This will be the last game the Kings play in Arrco Arena (or whatever they play now).
The lakers will have just played the previous night at home against the spurs.
The lakers are slumping.
There is reasonable hope the kings end their season with a win.

Washington plays @ Cleveland.
They're both coming off of wins but the wiz beat the celts, whereas the cavs only beat the pistons.
But again, it's in Cleveland.
Still, it's in Cleveland.

The Nets play @ Bulls.
The Bulls might rest their starters.
So what.

I watched the Kings game last night, and they really blew it. They had about 5 fast break opportunities where they came away empty, and Cousins decided that he wanted to play point guard. His box scores looked great, but the guy was a black hole in the middle and had some costly TOs and some really dumb plays.

On top of that, the worst goal tending no call I have ever seen.

Nice post Bat.

Very nice work Bat. However, one minor correction:
Giving the Jazz a 2 way tie for 4th best odds of winning the lotto, and worst case scenario 5th best odds.
In case of any tie, the tied teams won't really have better odds of winning the lottery because they split the combined odds for the 2 (or 3) positions. In this example, the two teams would split 119 + 88 chances, so one would get 104 chances and the other 103, or about the same odds.

Even more critical IMO is that the team that loses the tiebreaker (coin flip or dice roll) gets slotted later even if neither team wins the lottery. This is worst if there is a 3-way tie, where the difference between #4 and #6 can be huge.

Also, the closer to the top of the lottery the team is, the greater the likelihood that a team behind them will leapfrog them in the draft order. So, even if the Jazz got to the 4th spot, there is a good chance that two teams between 5 and 14 would get into the top 3 and drop the Jazz back to the 6th spot.

From where the Jazz sit now, it's most likely that they'll end up in the 5 - 7 range, unless of course, they win one of the top 3 spots.

So far the Basketball gods are smiling on us. The Lakers beat the Spurs so now they are tied with the Bulls for the best record in the NBA. Which means the Bulls will play their best players in the game today against the Nets. The Wizards are playing the Cavs on the road(toss up game since it is in Cleveland) and a win gets them 24 wins as well as the Nets(depending on the Bulls doing their job). The Kings play the Lakers at home. Bynum doesn't look like he will go in this game with the knee injury. I am not happy about the injury, just stating the facts. So maybe the Kings can pull off a win.

Nets should lose. I could see the Wiz winning unless they just don't want to, and even then they are playing the Cavs so they might win even if they try to lose. Sacramento winning? I'm having a hard time believing. Dallas and New Orleans playing for something still, so that game could go either way, but Dallas is better and it's in big D. Mavs probably win, which pushes the Lakers to match to keep the 2 seed. As long as the Lakers are motivated, I don't think it matters if Bynum is out or how well Sacramento has played of late.

My best guess is NJ and Sacramento end up in a tie. Maybe the Wizards join them as well.

Crazy schedule as well, with almost everything being decided in the first 11 games of the night (all starting at 6:00 MDT). Then at 8:30 MDT the Sacramento game will complete the NJ pick puzzle and the Phoenix game may decide the 12th worst / 13th worst record "battle" between Jazz and Suns.

Added actual number of lottery combinations for different scenarios. Because I have nothing better to do just after midnight my time.
