Should BOLOMBOY get in the game?

Is BOLOMBOY our only hope to stop D.J.?

Still crazy that we win a game and basically shutdown Jordan then he has a good game and our response is the guy who has barely been with the team, is undersized, and has played 53 minutes in the nba is a better option than what we have done. Fans are unbelievably stupid sometimes.

who is arguing that he's a better option??

He is also a 6'8 center

Strange. Many times in the past I have seen you post about positionless basketball. Wings and bigs rather pigeonholed specific positions for guys.

Why the change of perspective?

This is the playoffs against the best pnr PG since Stockton with an all-star center who has freakish length and athleticism.

Great point. Might have to throw the kitchen sink at em. Try different looks with different players if what you are doing isn't working.

Favors' body is obviously being held together with hopes prayers and duct tape. The dude is broken. We can only hope it isn't permanent for future seasons. But right now he is NOT up to the task, physically. I counted 6 separate times that someone drove to the basket with him FACING AND WATCHING THEM and he didn't even make a move to contest. It was not "help" situations, it was not that he was caught off guard. 6 times in which, if he had been fully healthy, he would have probably ended up with at least 2 blocks and 4 altered shots. Instead they got 6 dunks/lay-ups. He isn't well. But I give him full credit for getting out there on half a leg and doing what he can to stop the bleeding. But it just frankly isn't enough. It has nothing to do with heart, just a broken down body at this point.

Yup. Favors, whether fitness or injury related is not well and my guess is at 33 minutes playing time he's going to get worse not better.

It's weird how you think people are saying to play bolomboy over our other bigs and that he is our best option.

What I see people saying is that if their bigs are killing us then maybe give bolomboy a shot for a few minutes and see what happens. Even if just to hack a deandre.

I repeat D-LEAGUE. Not ALL-STAR. D-LEAGUE. All of his translatable skills landed him in the D-LEAGUE and netted him a whopping 50 minutes of actual game-time. The comparison to Almond is not that far off base. Unrealized potential is the mantle worn by pretty much all D-league "stars".

I just hope everyone isn't trying to pin our hopes on a d-league player who can't get off the bench even in garbage time during the regular season. Have we really fallen so far?

Again, as I have already state, put him in and let him smack DJ around some. Would be fun to watch if nothing else.

There are better comparisons im sure that can be made. The Dleague isnt a negative thing. Its just an unknown.
Almond is an example of Dleague points not translating. There is a valid argument about volume shooters for sure. I think it also shows
you why we should have a lot more faith in Bolomboy. His impact comes from other things. and his icing his is possible 3 point, scoring ability.

Go back and watch the Golden State and OKC road games. Small sample size but
in two tough arenas he made an impact on the game and had a positive + rating.

This is all moot because unless we release Withey Bolomboy wont see the floor if the game is close, but we can and should debate how he is used.
It's why we are here on jazzfanz.

I'm a huge Bolomboy homer and was joyous when we drafted him. I wouldn't mind seeing him enter the game and guard Griffin (mainly because JB would likely make him cry, just as Booker did) but I feel Bolomboy would have trouble guarding DJ based on weight and wingspan differences.

Disagree. A lot of it was indecision. It started with them feeding DeAndre so the Jazz hung back on pnr to dissuade the lob. That opened up some driving lanes. The Jazz will look at the tape and improve. The Clippers adjusted to the jazz defensive scheme with Favors after game 1 and exploited it in the 1st quarter, after that we improved and won the other 3 quarters. Sad how people are overreacting rn.

exactly.

And we know bolomboy has not been prepped enough for this roll in the playoffs. He wasnt in their plans this year as a rotation player.
So if he was used now it would not be under the best circumstances. I think if anything he could play a few minutes if our bigs are getting bullied.

My argument is what his roll should have been this year leading to this moment. Withey was never worthwhile to me other than a end of the bench big.

lol, and so true. We saw him give it all in game 1, and it just made me miss the old Favors more.

He may come out and have a good game 3, but its the game two days later I worry about.

The poll is based on our current state. Favors is hobbled. Withey so average it hurts. Gobert injured. Diaw not a strong defender.
An athletic rookie with plus defensive potential is something we should debate. Of course its not the best circumstance.

I dont see Favors as being "hobbled". I dont think he is 100% of what he is at his peak, but I think it's more just playing out of position in a role he has never been great at against a type of player he has never been great against.

When you don't involve some players during the regular season then it is difficult to throw them into the mix in the playoffs.

I think Bolomboy should have gotten more consideration during the regular season.

If Favors is 100% we are in trouble. He doesnt have the lift or explosion and was eaten alive in game 2.

He certainly had some lift and explosion. He had 3 and 1's around the rim over and around DeAndre Jordan. It's not like he was a statue. I think our tune would be much different regarding the health of his knee if we saw him playing his natural position as his defensive decisions would be easier w/ less pressure. Guarding Chris Paul and protecting the paint is just too much for Favors since he has no weakside help with Boris/Johnson as his cover. We treat the issue as it's just some factor of athleticism lacking that is preventing Favors from stopping these combination, but it goes beyond that. The timing and positioning of guarding them is much more difficult for a player who isnt use to being put in that situation as a center. We guarded it well Game 1 and they adjusted and had a good game 2 first quarter. Then we adjusted and played them even for 3 quarters. Im sure we will adjust again. No reason to overreact.
