Off-season Targets

They are paying his contract either way doofus. The contract won't be on the books either way. They kept him on because they wanted to see if his condition would improve. Your pessimism towards the Heat is ignoring the fact they were legitimately worried about this dude dying trying to play basketball.

Insurance is paying his contract.

If they waive him then we should sign him, but unless something changed with his insurance or stipulations I won't hold my breath.
We should have our doctors look at him and see what they say. I don't want to be the team that let Bosh kill himself. Idk why you think its such a flippant issue.

His issue is blood clots, not congestive heart failure or end-stage renal disease. If he developes more clots then he has to sit out, which is risky financially. If he developes blood clots it's not from playing basketball and his actual basketball ability is not compromised secondary to health issues only inasmuch as it prevents him from playing.

If TOR decides to blow it up, then we need to scoop up DeRozan ASAP. I think he'd fit in our offense perfectly. Get Joseph, too.

Are you a doctor?

The guy hasn't even practiced in over a year because of his condition.

Put yourself in the Heat's shoes:

You have a guy who had to be ruled out for the season twice. Now insurance is picking up 80% of the tab. You bring him back on his large contract, forfeit insurance money, and you get burned again and have to pay his salary. Yeah, you don't have that guy practice if you're looking to cut your losses.

So your diagnosis is purely based on pessimism?

"Riley also lashed out at media reports -- some fed by Bosh's side -- that the Heat were concerned largely about clearing Bosh's money from the salary cap. Bosh has three years and $76 million remaining on his contract and, if he doesn't play more than nine games between now and February 9, the Heat can begin the process of trying to clear him from their roster. They would still be responsible for paying him, with insurance covering roughly half of it."

Prognosis is not nearly as black and white as people assume. You're weighing out many things and probabilities of a meaningful return run along a spectrum. If you've got $25M that hangs in the balance, it's easy to favor the facts that happen to coincide with financial interests.

Spoelstra played in college with a dude who was taking medication for a heart condition and died during a game. I'm sure the Heat are 100% greedy and not just concerned for his health at all.

I guarantee you Spoelstra has no say whatsoever in this. Again, there are multiple reasons to hold him out and they're not mutually exclusive -- and especially if there's an element of altruism involved one would typically inflate that motive in their own mind.

Ahh now you are a doctor who knows the inner workings of Miami Heat decision making.

Isn't the whole premise of this argument that you're defending what you believe are the inner workings of Miami Heat decision making?

I'm arguing that having a hypercoaguable condition is not career-ending and hanging your hat on a for-profit franchise's evaluation that interestingly coincides perfectly with financial interests isn't really the best way to approach a medical evaluation not the best way to determine if a guy could play for someone when that franchise has much less financial bias injected into medical decision making.

More that I believe in the condition is serious. They could have used him this year to win. Its not like they tried to tank.
