Boston vs Utah for Hayward

Nobody's going to try to get Paul George, they know he's off to la la land the year after. And why would Boston trade the no.1 pick for Hayward when they can just sign him in free agency if he wanted to go there ??

Just browsing the Celtics forum, they seem super opposed at trading that #1 pick. Ainge is pretty stingy maybe they play the long game and just try to lure a max free agent. If not Hayward this year, they can go for Paul George next year.

Yeah, I highly doubt they trade it. That's why I think George could be in play, the Celtics have superior assets but are married to them.

To get the 5 year max. Now why would Boston do it? They wouldn't. Unless we offered Gobert, which we wouldn't.

Just seems like if Hayward chose Boston, it would be in part due to them getting Fultz and how that sets them up long-term.

I absolutely believe George could be had pretty cheaply (in relative terms) this year. Pacers would be fools not to sell him for the best offer and start the rebuild this year.

Hayward cares nothing about Fultz. Hayward's been waiting his whole life for talent to mature around him. He wants to win now. I'm fairly certain he isn't depending on an 18 year old to be his savior. You don't improve like you have over the past three seasons and put in that type of work unless you see yourself as "the man." Hayward would more likely like to see that pick parlayed into complementary talent around him, especially as the Celtic would have to give some talent up to fit him under the cap.

Cmon. He cares a little bit about Fultz. And the talent in Boston without him and Fultz was a 1 Seed.

He'd care more about proven talent... I don't think they will move the pick now that it is fultz... maybe next years pick and other stuff to get a proven talent. If they landed 3 could see them getting involved with butler or George or some other all star level dude:

One thing to note... to get the space to sign Hayward Boston would need to renounce the rights to all unguaranteed contracts and FAs not named Kelly Olynk... then they would need to either:

- Renounce the rights to Kelly making him an unrestricted FA.
- Trade Jae Crowder and take back no salary.
- Trade Avery Bradley and take back little salary.
- Trade $6-7M of Smart, Rozier, Jackson, Mickey and take back no salary.

Doesn't prohibit them from figuring it out, but any wrinkle in the process helps us a little.

That means they would have to
-renounce Amir Johnson
-renounce Jonas Jerebko
-renounce James Young
-renounce Gerald Green
-not pick up Tyler Zeller, Demetrius Jackson and Jordan Mickey's non guaranteed contracts

Plus lose one of the other pieces you mentioned. Pretty risky for them to do just to get an opportunity at Hayward.

I honestly don't see Hayward leaving. I can't wait for July when he stays so all this talk can end.

This .. he's not gonna go somewhere for a move that isn't significantly upward in terms of competing. Boston ain't any kind of certainty

Boston won't trade #1 unless its for a current great player on a long contract. Butler makes sense.

If we sign and trade Hayward because he definitely wants Boston, I would take Jaylen Brown. He is better than nothing, would rot on the bench in Boston and has a long term rookie deal.

Boston actually has a problem. Their best player/All-Star is a PG, they have Bradley and Smart who are also core guys and wing players. If they don't trade the pick they will have a logjam. They are choosing between two freshman PG's.

I think this would be more appealing if the top pick this year was a big man. Let's say this was a Karl Anthony Town/Anthony Davis type draft. The Celtics could take that type of player and put them right into rotation with Horford and complete their team.

We should have traded Hayward for the Brooklyn pick. Picked up his replacement then went big money at D Lillard when he is a FA.

I'm not certain that Boston would have traded the pick for hayward though.

You see, it takes more than one team to complete a trade unfortunately.

Let's say DL determines he can't resign Hayward, can he trade him to Boston, and would Boston agree to give us the #1 pick for Hayward?? This isn't me wanting to get rid of Hayward, but I've had a bad feeling for a couple weeks now that Hayward will sign with Boston.
