Following potential 2017 draftees...

This draft has many more guys that I like in our range than guys I don't like... not really a fan of Leaf or Ferguson. Could probably talk myself into Jeanne but there are other guys I'd be more excited about. The others in our range are all kind of intriguing guys and many fit lt needs.

I wouldn't package picks to move up... if we took one of the draft and stash guys I might see if we can get another pick in the 20s or 30s even.
 
Lydon is this year's Lyles and Henry Ellenson for me... I never warmed up to him. I am not a fan.

Giannis's brother Alex Antetokounmpo is 6'5 at 15 years old. He has a 7'2 wingspan.

You don't think their games are comparable though... just those are the prospects you aren't a fan of?

Lydon is clearly the best shooter of those three and has more defensive impact. I think Ellenson is the wrong kind of tweener... a 4/5 who crushes your ability to defend.

I like him, but I can see why someone might not... I think his floor is a 9th-10th man though good enough shooter to stay in the league for a while. I'd take him over Leaf who most seem to have way ahead of Lydon, but I think Leaf benefited a ton from Ball and his 3 point shooting is a little fluky.

No... and open gym shooting in rhythm is much easier than in game shooting. Always laughed when people would be like "did you see the vid of WCS making 7 threes in a row... dude gonna be a shooter"

I do think he's going to shoot 36-40% on 3 in the NBA... you aren't doubting he's a shooter right?

It's a bit weird because Lydon is kind of the opposite player of those. He's got athleticism and he's actually hitting his 3pointer, while Lyles and Ellenson were groundbound(relatively), not explosive and they didn't hit their 3s, but they had some playmaking that Lydon doesn't have IMO. I can't explain it, I just have the same feeling about him that I did about those two. The problem is... he's truly a 1 trick pony - all he does at a good level that might translate is hit 3s on the catch... nothing else... People call Markkanen one-trick pony, but Markkanen is immeasurably more polished and versatile in so many ways offensively. If all he does is shoot standstill 3s and doesn't do the big men things well, then what's the point of having a big man on the floor when you can just put in a wing to do the same things and provide you with better skill and better speed and better switchability.

I think he might be Ryan Andersonish... One trick pony but the trick is pretty good and he does enough other stuff to stay on the floor. I think he's more athletic than Anderson, but anderson is a better rebounder and better shooter. He's also a decent passer.

I think he played within himself and the same things he did in college should translate and he could be a valuable role player/good starter.

He doesn't have the offensive versatility and skill of Ryan Anderson IMO. His offensive game is extremely limited.
 
I really think Semi Ojeleye is going to be a steal in this draft. Maybe the steal. Just wanted to comment that for the record. Two guys who I'm not fond of and hope we stay away from selecting are Ivan Rabb and Terrence Ferguson.

I'd be excited with Ojeleye at 24 or wherever we're picking first. If we had someone who can bring intensity, nastiness and hit from the perimeter those are things we need now and he could be a rotation guy.
 
John Collins lead the nation in PER with a 35.9 rating.

19.2 PPG, 9.8 RPG, 1.6 BPG, 62.2% from the field in 26.6 MPG.

He's only 19 years old too. He turns 20 in late September. He's actually younger than Markkanen and Leaf.

I know he is bad defensively but 2.4 BPG per 40 is pretty encouraging. I think he would be a pretty good fit for the Jazz.

Semi Ojeleye I have a love hate relationship with. I love his size and his shooting I hate his basketball IQ. The games doesnt come easily to him and he uses his strength for force himself upon the game. He wont be able to do that in the NBA. He was also known as a black hole at times for SMU

I think the way Johnson played this year is exactly what you would want from Semi. I think Johnson could be a great mentor for him. If he will buy into the Jazz system and ball movement he would be a steal.
 
John Collins numbers are insane... Is the NBA completely out on post ups? I think he could also develop a shot. People compare him to Kanter because of bad defense, bad passing, and low bball IQ, but he doesn't have the physical limitations Kanter does.

If that guy was a good passer he'd be pretty filthy.

He has different physical limitations than Kanter. He has a small frame w/ a weak wingspan for a player who is going to rely on stuff around the basket. He has the same lack of awareness on the court and that is really what hamstrings Kanter more than anything.

Seriously, he basically averaged a double-double w/ 1.6 blocks in 26 minutes a game. He's also younger than some of the freshman and only a few months older than most of them.

Justin Patton is another player who doesn't get mentioned very much.

I would be extremely happy with him at 24.

I think we tend to not talk about players who aren't in our range and it makes sense. The thing is (Cy has been mentioning this) all of these big men aren't all going to go in the top-20. Some of them are going to fall and some won't even go in the first-round. Collins and Patton could both be there at 24 not because they're bad players but because there is so many big-men around the same range.
