What's new

Following potential 2017 draftees...

DX came out with a new mock after the withdrawal deadline. Jonathan Jeanne at 24 and Derrick White at 30.

Did you see the SI Mock with Wilson (24) and Sumner (30)? Interestingly, DX also has the Jazz drafting Sumner but with the 42 pick.

I had to read Sumner's Bio. And as I read it my first impression was..."This guy is Dante Exum"

Using his quick first step and ability to attack the rim, Sumner can slash to the rim off the dribble, where he converts at a rate of 53% according to Synergy Sports Technology. He has no trouble playing above the rim when he penetrates, but isn't a crafty finisher at the rim, lacking a degree of touch, and can get a little out of control at times, which hurts his ability to finish efficiently. The one area where Sumner must improve as a driver is with his ball-handling skills as he struggles to break down the defense with his loose handle. - Source: https://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Edmond-Sumner-71622/ ©DraftExpress

Derrick White is definitely a good fit on Utah. More of a sure thing than Frank Jackson, but I guess less upside because of the age gap.

If we draft another Exum at 42 and Kuzma goes at 43 I will cry.

Sure... just don't think that's a fatal flaw... it's a highly correctable flaw. Fatal flaw would be like he is too small or athletic ceiling may be too low or a completely busted jumper.

i don't think his body fat is an indicator of his work ethic... likely a bad habit... many guys adjust their nutrition in the NBA when they get good advice and such.

A fatal flaw would be MKGs shooting form

"great"? really?

please sell him to me. im not seeing anything exciting from his videos.

as a back up to gobert you want some one who can come in off the bech ready to play. 15 to 18 minutes a night max.

some one who is going to rebound and play defense. He is developing a nice hook shot and is a strong finisher.

you dont need or particularly want a world beater as a back up then you cant keep them.

For what it's worth I like DJ Wilson, but I also have some worries about him. He has the trifecta of success - NBA size, NBA athleticism, NBA skill. He's very long (7'3" wingspan, 9'2" standing reach) with the mobility of a wing and the length of a Derrick Favors. He has explosive athleticism off both 1 foot and 2 feet. He is the perfect new age big IMO. His length and mobility will help him defend at a good level with Jazz coaching, IMO. He also has a legit NBA skill - he can shoot. I am completely buying his shot. It looks great and it goes in - both from 3 and from FT. His release is very quick too. I have no worries for his shot in the NBA. At the very least I think he can be a 35-36% shooter. He also seems to have good IQ which can be seen on his cuts. To me he looks like a very good modern day 4 prospect.

The problem with him is... the rest of his game is a bit raw and unrefined, which wouldn't be a problem if he wasn't 21 already. I wonder why he needed to become junior before he shined? I still like him and I still would take him no. 30 without much hesitation.

That and his rebounding is just bad, at least when you just look at the raw numbers. Maybe I'm missing some greater context that explains why a guy with 9'2 standing reach and NBA athleticism only averages 5 rebounds in 30 mpg. If you are just playing with Gobert it might not be a big deal, but we all saw how crappy our rebounding without Gobert was this year.

This is a very good point. We were downright horrible at rebounding when Gobert went down.

I've noticed he leaks out a lot and he probably was defending on the perimeter a lot. This might drop his rebounding numbers. It's still not great, but you can live with it if you play him next to Gobert.

I could see him going in the first too. His range is all over the place. Chad Ford has him at 20 and DX has him at 41.

Seems like a lot of 20-40 players this year. It will probably result in a player available at 42 who was mocked higher. Which will mean a bunch of us jazzfanzers will be pissed when Dennis O Lindsey trades the 42 pick.

Wilson needs to get stronger, period. His body is still pretty underdeveloped. I think he just doesn't have the strength to play big inside right now. He plays like s wing mostly. Go look at his tape and compare him to Jonathan Issac. They play a similar role and make some similar plays.

I was thinking about him being a lesser version of Isaac indeed. But Isaac is tougher and IMO has better strength, especially for being 2 years younger.

I absolutely forbid the Jazz to draft Derrick White.

We'd never hear the end of the Utah always drafts white jokes on realgm.
