What's new

Netflix - The Keepers

If you liked Seriel or How to make a Muderer it's better than both of those.

It's definitely better than Making a Murderer in terms of the severity of the crime and shock factor (for me).

However, from the 'whodunit' angle I still think Serial Season 1 is pretty hard to beat.

Yeah no doubt they knew. I singled out the Bill because it's something that is ongoing. Everything that went on in the past they could simply deny they had no knowledge of what went on, or that Joeseph was acting on his own, etc.

But this push against the Bill is happening TODAY. It's what the Church is collectively choosing to stand behind.

It shows that they are still not willing to own up to what happened and are still lying to the public and the congregation going forward. That's really what disgusted me the most.

This is true. It's hard for me to believe that any organization WOULD be against this. Hearing those other people's stories and then watching this..... It's just so weird to me. The amount of corruption that is going on (to me, other may think differently) is mind blowing to me. That city is waiting and hoping that all these people pass on and that it disappears forever. How can all that evidence that was collected (EVEN THE 100~ GIRLS THAT CAME FORWARD) in the modern era "disappear?"

I loved Serial. But the cover-up and consipiracy stuff gets my juices flowing more than a 'whodunit'.

I'm already 3 episodes in. I highly recommend this already. I'm saving all of my thoughts until I've finished watching it all. All I'm going to say right now is watch it!!!

Be warned. This series sticks with you. I finished it 3 days ago and I am still thinking about it non-stop.

Even though there's the running joke about Catholic priests touching boys and everyone under the sun knows the Catholic church will cover up any and all such incidents for self-preservation?

I'm guessing yes but I'm still having trouble buying in.

Everybody's threshold is different but there's some really evil stuff in this series, on top of great story telling.

*****SPOILERS****

Just finished the series today. I have been thinking about it quite a bit and here are my thoughts.

- First question that pops into my head is why was Koob the first person Sister Russell called when Sister Cathy went missing? Any normal person would think to call the police.

- The way they acted that night was extremely weird as well. They were breaking bread and saved her a piece. They prayed and everything but didn't think to go look for her?

- Koob comes off as very odd to me. The scene where he said the detective threw Cathy's vagina wrapped in newspaper on the table was extremely weird to me.

- Does anyone else think Skippy could be Edgar?

- Does anyone else think Brother Bob could be Koob?

- I have no words to describe how disgusting and ****ed up of a person Maskell was. He abused the kids trust in him and used their horrible past experiences against them. Then he had the audacity to say he really thought he was helping them? Are you ****ing kidding me?

- Edgar admits that he was the person to call in on the radio show. That alone makes him seem like he was involved somehow.

- The gift that he gave his wife had an August birthstone which matched the birth month of the husband of Sister Cathy's sister.

- The scene where Billy's ex-wife said he wouldn't stop talking about the lady upstairs so she went up there and there was a nun outfit on a manikin. That freaked me out and was extremely creepy.

- The Catholic church is a joke. The way they were protecting Maskell and fighting the bill made me so mad. **** them.

- Sharon May is the shadiest bitch I've ever seen in my entire life. She had the nerve to lie and say the files they dug up had nothing in them to charge Maskell with? Why did he bury them then? It makes no sense especially when someone says they physically saw pictures.

- The police have one piece of evidence found at the crime scene which is the cigarette butt. They dug up Maskell's body and it wasn't a match. I didn't think it would be but I'm interested to find out if it matches any of the suspects.

Sorry for the long post but I have so many thoughts about this series.

Very good write up, I'll respond to each of these in red below.

*****SPOILERS****

Just finished the series today. I have been thinking about it quite a bit and here are my thoughts.

- First question that pops into my head is why was Koob the first person Sister Russell called when Sister Cathy went missing? Any normal person would think to call the police.

Maybe bceause Sister Russell has only been out of the sisterhood and living in the outside world for a short time? I can understand why she would have consulted a trusted male in Koob first.

- The way they acted that night was extremely weird as well. They were breaking bread and saved her a piece. They prayed and everything but didn't think to go look for her?

Again, remember that these are people of STRONG faith, and praying would have been a perfectly normal activity IMO.

- Koob comes off as very odd to me. The scene where he said the detective threw Cathy's vagina wrapped in newspaper on the table was extremely weird to me.

Agreed. But I wonder if it's just an interrogation tactic? It didn't needed to be Cathy's, it could have been anybody's just to get Koob's reaction?

- Does anyone else think Skippy could be Edgar?

Interesting - need to re-watch.

- Does anyone else think Brother Bob could be Koob?

Interesting - need to re-watch.

- I have no words to describe how disgusting and ****ed up of a person Maskell was. He abused the kids trust in him and used their horrible past experiences against them. Then he had the audacity to say he really thought he was helping them? Are you ****ing kidding me?

As bad and as evil as Maskell was, it was the Church's response to this tragedy that is to me is the saddest part. They 'created' an environment in which something like this could have happened. How was he able to have an office where he counselled young girls behind locked doors? It doesn't matter how 'Saint like' you are. What kind of system is that?

- Edgar admits that he was the person to call in on the radio show. That alone makes him seem like he was involved somehow.

- The gift that he gave his wife had an August birthstone which matched the birth month of the husband of Sister Cathy's sister.

- The scene where Billy's ex-wife said he wouldn't stop talking about the lady upstairs so she went up there and there was a nun outfit on a manikin. That freaked me out and was extremely creepy.

Yup, that scene was one of the creepiest of all these true crime docs I've watched. And I've watched A LOT of them.

- The Catholic church is a joke. The way they were protecting Maskell and fighting the bill made me so mad. **** them.

Agreed.

- Sharon May is the shadiest bitch I've ever seen in my entire life. She had the nerve to lie and say the files they dug up had nothing in them to charge Maskell with? Why did he bury them then? It makes no sense especially when someone says they physically saw pictures.

Agreed. She's a real snake.

- The police have one piece of evidence found at the crime scene which is the cigarette butt. They dug up Maskell's body and it wasn't a match. I didn't think it would be but I'm interested to find out if it matches any of the suspects.

I hope that because of this they try and match it with more people than Maskell. I never thought it would have matched Maskell. He was the puppeteer, he didn't get his hands dirty.

Sorry for the long post but I have so many thoughts about this series.

The killer (or somebody who helped), would have driven Cathy's car. It's a pity that way back then there wasn't DNA technology to test the DNZ on that steering wheel. I don't think the killer would have worn gloves back then. It would have been pretty easy to test whose DNA were on that steering wheel and go from there.

The evidence strongly points to the guy that lives in the same apartment complex as Cathy, that's the next guy they should test the DNA on the cigarette butt on.

Also as a side note, if you believe in Karma, Maskell pretty much got exactly what he deserved, a premature death and a wasted life. It didn't look like he had much of anything after he was fired. If you don't believe in Karma but believe that God exists, then he'll get punished regardless. Seems like it's a lose/lose for him.

Agreed - something is definitely up with Koob. I don't think he's the killer but at best he's an accomplice after the fact. Also add - the love letter that Sister Cathy supposedly "typed" to him that Koob read in the 5th episode. LOL - after watching does anyone actually believe Sister Cathy would type a love letter?

- Does anyone else think Skippy could be Edgar?

That crossed my mind - more than likely there were a whole network of these misfits - more on that below.

- Does anyone else think Brother Bob could be Koob?

That would be some shocking **** - wouldn't it?

- Edgar admits that he was the person to call in on the radio show. That alone makes him seem like he was involved somehow.

- The gift that he gave his wife had an August birthstone which matched the birth month of the husband of Sister Cathy's sister.

Yep, safe to say Edgar was involved on some level - he might not have even known the other players involved. His interview was cringe-worthy. What a pathetic old man.

- The scene where Billy's ex-wife said he wouldn't stop talking about the lady upstairs so she went up there and there was a nun outfit on a manikin. That freaked me out and was extremely creepy.

I was thinking where did they find all these perverts in the non-internet age. My wife actually figured this out. They found girls who were good candidates for sexual abuse through the confessional - that's probably where they found the perverts too. Or in Billy's case, a homosexual in the 60's. The poor guy probably went to confessional to admit his "sin" and they used it to blackmail him. Or one of his lovers did. The fact that he lived down the hall from Sister Cathy made him all the more useful.

- Sharon May is the shadiest bitch I've ever seen in my entire life. She had the nerve to lie and say the files they dug up had nothing in them to charge Maskell with? Why did he bury them then? It makes no sense especially when someone says they physically saw pictures.

Add to this the worst liar that ever lived. If it wasn't so tragic it be comical. I loved the close-ups on her face while the endless parade of bull **** spewed out of her mouth. She's so bad a liar that I'm wondering if she actually dying to tell the truth.

- The police have one piece of evidence found at the crime scene which is the cigarette butt. They dug up Maskell's body and it wasn't a match. I didn't think it would be but I'm interested to find out if it matches any of the suspects.

Maskell was way too smart to put himself at the scene of the crime. Which makes me think Jane Doe's repressed memory of Maskell bringing her to the body was just a delusion.

I'm watching Rectify

Absolutely love it

No way I'm watching any of that! Trailer Park boys all the way!:p
