I'm currently talking myself into it, especially when I look at the Jazz's salary list.
I totally forgot Detroit is still paying Josh Smith 5 million a year for the next 3 years.
When I look at their roster, their biggest issue is they are paying 22 million to 3 backup bigs (Leuer, Baynes, and Marjanovic). Maybe they get lucky and Baynes opts out? That should be a Jazz lesson, dont ask for the Jazz to pay money to anyone backing up Rudy.
I guess they are tighter to the cap than I expected. Their best players are on decent deals, but they have a lot of mid priced players who dont really make sense and are just slightly overpaid, but it adds up (plus the Josh Smith thing lol). Van Gundy just made some stupid deals, like giving Ish Smith 18 million for 3 years. I didnt realize he overpaid this many guys who are just backups. Luckily none of them are terrible, so I think he can get out of this relatively easily. Think he just has to move one player and he is good for next year (especially if Baynes opts out which is up in the air from what I've read).
They will be at 107 million after they renounce the rights to Bullock (seems likely). The LT will be at 122 from what I've read and Baynes contract is 6,500,000. So they get lucky and he opts out, they are at 101 million before having to pay KCP, who could get maxed. This is when that 5,000,000 they are paying Smith really hurts them lol.
They'll move on from Bullock. Baynes could go either way with his option. They'll still have to pay one or two rookies in addition to KCP. They'll be toeing the line with the LT, but they're basically a treadmill team.
If Ntilikina makes it to 12, they'll be pretty tempted to take him there. Otherwise, I think they could be tempted to move the pick.
I want Terrence Ferguson in the worst way. I think he made a huge mistake going over seas instead of going to college, if he had I think he'd be out of our range right now. Fact is he's young with less experience then most. He doesn't play much, but everytime I watch his highlights, it just looks sooooo good. It just pops out at me. And from reading about him he's improved a lot as well as his roll on his team, and seems taylor made for the jazz offense. He's way underrated.
Catchall, how do you like this trade? https://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=y7svyow4
I targeted Minnesota because they need a SF/Stretch 4 and Marcus Morris kind of fits that while being on a good contract. Plus they have a ton of cap room since their best players are on rookie deals and Rubio is on a decent contract (also I think they are going to get medically exempt from having Pek's contract count towards the books next year).
Basically they take on the contracts of Baynes (only 1 year left, so he will be off the books by the time they have to pay up for Wiggins/LaVine) and Boban (he is probably better than Aldrich, right?). I thought about putting Leuer and Baynes in there instead of Baynes/Boban, but Leuer's contract is probably too lengthy and pricey for them since he will still on books when KAT, Wiggins, and LaVine are on their 2nd contracts.
They also give up Bejlica to Detroit, who seems like he would be a fit next to Drummond as a shooting 4. I had to throw in Payne to make it work in the trade machine.
I think Minnesota will end up with Issac or Markannen in the draft. Payne is worthless, so the Jazz would be flipping Hood for #12. If that's the case, I think Charlotte would give #11 fwiw. The Kings might offer 10 for Hood, especially if the Jazz send back #24. The Kings would play Hood at the 3 next to Buddy Hield.
Yeah, I know. Payne just had to go somewhere to make the trade work according to the machine. IDK if that is actually the case though during the off-season, so just ignore the Payne part.
It's more about do you think that is something the Pistons or Wolves would want.

Easily one of my most disliked players in this draft. I dont think he is good at all and he would be terrible in the Jazz offense. Not a lot of skill outside of spot up shooting.
Ferguson generated some buzz at the Nike Hoop Summit when he hit a string of 3s.

I don't think the Jazz are motivated to move Hood just yet. It's true that some goofy team may offer him a max or close to max deal, knowing that it will push the Jazz into the LT to match it. I think the Jazz would make other moves between now and then, including dumping Burks and resolving the Favors situation.
Ferguson could end up being better than Malik Monk. He's quick and he has a stroke.
