Following potential 2017 draftees...

If we had Booker instead of Lyles we'd be the #2 team in the west.

We could be drafting in the 2nd round this year and get a better prospect than Lyles.

That along with Burks instead of Leonard, are two epic misses on Lindsey's end. Both those players would have changed this franchise into a contender team. Instead, we got one broken player who gave us maybe 1-2 years of backup mins and another bust. Lyles is a huge bust. Can't even contribute at all.

Burks was a Kevin O'Connor pick if I remember correctly.

The only thing Lindsey had to do with Leonard was participating in trading for him... as he was with San Antonio at the time.

But Leonard is a real sore spot for me. I was wanting to draft him 6th prior to our pick jumping to 3, then baffled when we passed on him at 12 or wherever. More pissed when SA traded for him.

DL should have traded him to Utah when he was with SA... total failure on his part.

I too did not understand that, but it was clear from Locke and others at the time that they zeroed in on Burks early. Kawhi was projected at 7 to the Kings almost as the consensus. If a guy falls you just take him.

Booker was understandable and hindsight is 20/20... I just didn't want Lyles... would have preferred almost anyone else.

shoulda coulda woulda it doesnt matter now. My depression for lyles is there are a ton of bigs in this draft that i like more then lyles. I would laugh if we traded lyles for another pick in this draft. (yes it could be a draft and stash player)

Even PKM was rather iffy on Booker. I'm not too bent out of shape on him. It will be interesting to see how it shakes out with him. I really wanted Frank Kaminsky that year. Was really underwhelmed with Lyles. Then he looked like he may be decent. Back to underwhelmed.

I wasn't a fan of the Lyles pick when it was made. But that's what happened. Can't change it now. And I don't think it's time to give up on him unless the Jazz feel he's totally checked out after the slump this season. He showed a considerable amount of potential in his rookie season. I don't think 38.3% from 3 was a fluke. He does have the ability to shoot it. I wouldn't be against moving him if the right trade came along but I'm not really dying to just dump him for whatever we can get either.

To start out, I'm going to say that I prefer Booker to Lyles.

With that said, I do think it's close. Booker is barely a league average player. On this team, he's a role player at best. Him and Lyles are probably on the same level of defense. As of now, Booker is a volume scorer. Shoots 42% and 36%. Decent, not good. Could be better if he wasn't a primary option. In fact, he's pretty darn good on catch and shoot, open shots. Other than that, meh. Not good off the dribble, poor creator, awful defender. He's like early career Redick.

My argument is that if Lyles was given a green light on a ****ty team, he'd put up pretty good numbers. We've seen Lyles when he gets to be a focal point. It's generally good for him, bad for team, just like Booker. I really don't think the difference between them is that great.

In rebuttal... when Lyles was in he shot a ton of ****ty shots and made us a ****ty team... so you could say he creates that environment for himself here.

Booker also looks like he has a pulse... Lyles might just be a chill dude, but it'd be nice if it looked like he cares. Even his bench celebration game was so much better last year. Lyles looks like he has about as much energy as my dog the day after he got fixed... just kind of mopey and lifeless.

I fully believed he checked out last year and it was completely stupid... he had ample opportunity to break into the rotation and just sucked.

This is why I think a move to Orlando might be good for him (he can go hang out at disney world) and us.

Right. I'm not sticking up for Lyles as much as saying that I think Booker would be a similar player here in Utah to Lyles. Better than Lyles, but not exactly good.

I get why Lyles was disappointed and got into a funk, but he has to work past that and the coaches have to do something about it.
