I believe in DL, the GM god -- but, this draft shows the Jazz may lose Hayward...

Here is the deal...

The Jazz need to add a solid piece in order to show Gordon Hayward that we are all in on him. Two ways to get a solid piece; free agency and via trade. Utah is not a great FA destination for a solid piece (by solid piece I mean someone who has been an all start in the past 2 seasons or has been borderline like Eric Bledsoe or something).

The Jazz don't have a great chance to bring in an All Star level free agent... so it is my thought we would need to go all in on bringing in a solid All Star level player via trade.

So for the draft I expected DL to package our first rounders with one of our good players... Rodney Hood or Derrick Favors to make a trade for that piece, because without our draft picks I don't think the Jazz have the assets to make a trade like that...

So my conclusion is Dennis Lindsey knows Hayward is gone, or he would have actually made a trade for a high level player instead of trading up in the draft.

Thoughts? I know this may be a stretch, but I think it may be a sign that Hayward may be gone.

Then what does Dennis Lindsay do to show Hayward we are all in?

There is still time to make a trade before FA. Hayward might have commited already behind the scenes to the Jazz so Jazz went after the players they wanted and didnt get any trade offers that were good. If Hayward is committed we can wait to make a big trade for a good deal. There are other options for what the Jazz are doing and why. Although what you posted could be right as well but I would not say that the most likely scenario.

True if he committed, then this draft is just REALLY GOOD for us. But, if he is still unsure... this draft didn't move the needle in our direction. Which would SUCK BALLS. Plus, like I mentioned we lost great assets to use in a trade tonight.

I still think we should go for Beverly as replacement for Burks.

If the Celtics expect to sign Hayward in FA, why did they draft Jayson Tatum and why do they continue to try to trade for PG? If they get both Jayson and PG, would Hayward really be their greatest need and the right player to max out?

Riley says the "major guys" in free agency, "are most likely going back."

So there is that...

Awww suck... so if all FA guys go back... we have to trade... but we just used up a lot of solid assets... ugh. Bummer.

I actually feel MUCH better about our chances after tonight. Boston turned down an offer of #3 for Jimmy Butler straight up. That tells me they are sold on Tatum being special. Phil Jackson's temper tantrum should die down now that the draft is over, I don't think KP is going anywhere. That leaves PG13 as the available difference maker Boston could acquire via trade. And considering that they are sold on Tatum, I don't see them gutting their current roster for PG13 AND Hayward. I think they go after one or the other. If Boston's pitch is their team from last year + Tatum then I love our chances of keeping Hayward. I think tonight went well.

Over reaction... Wait until free agency because anything else is speculation. Really, Celtics picking Tatum smells more like Hayward isn't going green. Jaylen brown, Crowder, Tatum, AND Hayward? Nah...

Miami is a sellout move. There is money, but a lot of rebuilding. I think there will be plenty more suitors, but I think hayward has to look at the improvement in Utah and how smart our management is. The chemistry is rocking too. Besides, all stars around the league didn't show Hayward any respect. Why now? Hacks. It's shallow.

It's widely reported that the Jazz are still in the point guard market and have also been getting lots of interest in favors.

DL showed he's being aggressive. He didn't just stand pat. He got up and swung hard. Now let's see him follow through. Still have 10 days or so.

Oh man I'd be thrilled. That would also free up another 4-5 million.

Burks and the OKC 2018 1st for Beverly?

They want to unload Beverly to clear cap. It would have to be a 3rd team, somebody willing to take Burks contract.

You are reading way too much into it. This draft doesn't show much of anything regarding Hayward, IMO. If anything it shows DL is not afraid to make moves and go get the players he wants for the team. It shows confidence in what he's trying to do. DL did in this draft a lot more with a lot less than Ainge was able to do.

Rookies almost never help you win, whether you draft them at 3, 13, or 33... This is not a move for next year. This is a move to make the Jazz better in the long run.
