Chris Paul to the Rockets - Beverly is off the table

I don't think he did it for Houston or LA. I believe he'll still be able to sign that huge deal next year, which means he did this for himself.
Unless he gets hurt - which happens to guys over 30. If he tears his quad like Parker did. . . he's NEVER going to sniff the contract he could have signed as a free agent this offseason. Unless he signs a big extension with a Houston this offseason after he opts in. . . this is a horrible decision by Chris Paul. Good move by LA to get something for him. I won't be shocked if they try to flip any (or all 3) of Dekker, Beverley and Williams. Time to tear that team down to the ground and start paving the way for a rebuild.

I'm not sure this makes Houston that much better if at all. Maybe they are going to make another move and this will make more sense.

This team will have a great regular season record but I don't see them being better in the playoffs, I could be wrong though.

CP3 is getting to play for his friend but there are so many teams he could have gone to that would have been better situations, including Spurs, Jazz maybe even Minny.

Does this give more incentive for G-time to get out of the West?
No. I don't think so. IMO, it made a lot more sense for CP3 to target a jump to San Antonio. I don't think this helps the Rockets as much as it might initially seem to. That team is All in right now, and I dont see this as a move that toppled the Warriors.

I grew up watching the old league, and like you my first thought was "aging star on a one-year deal for young assets is a bad trade" but in the new NBA there is no such thing as "long term" there is only next season.

Well, it sounds like the Clippers are really gonna be the Clippers again. That should make you feel some extra nostalgia for the old league.

I think the kicker has to be paid by the new team but isnt part of contract.

It still doesn't work there is more to this... Duncan and others are saying so too. The smart people finally caught up to me... it doesn't work straight up until 7/1 and even then more stuff is involved. They likely found a taker for Anderson.

I'm not a huge Steve Ballmer fan, but he inherited that team when he bought it amid a crisis period for the organization. I'll wait to see how he structures his front office and how they build the team before I judge them. They're already off to a great start IMO by hiring Jerry West and divorcing themselves from Chris Paul. If they move on from Blake Griffin as well, it will be interesting. Clippers need to get young and rebuild. Not hang on to old, expensive pieces that they can't compete in the playoffs with.

Guess so. It would be easier to do by July 1 if they just throw in a smaller, expendable contract.

Paul is $22.8 million
Lou ($7), PB ($6), Decker ($1.7), Harrell ($1) = $16ish
They could add a few of their $.5 guys maybe.

Definitely a risky decision, but when talking about why he did it, I don't believe for a second he was doing Houston a favor, as Cy suggested. They are burning assets they could have used otherwise. Paul did this to gamble on signing for more money next year instead of the deal he would have signed as a free agent.

Playoffs relevant meaning they will be in the discussion. Its not like they have to fully rebuild.

Beverley, Lou, Aminu, Griffen and Jordan isn't bad.

If they were in the Eastern conference. THat squad doesn't make a dent in the Western playoff picture.
