NBA Free Agency Moves in General (related to the Jazz, but not just moves made by the Jazz)

Tony Jones dislikes the idea of the Jazz signing Ersan Ilyasova or Nikola Mirotic for whatever that's worth. He likes Willie Reed, JaMychal Green. And he seems convinced the Jazz are focused on finding someone who can play the 3 and 4.

Those are all the guys I'm going after if I'm Utah.

Mirotic > Ilyasova > Green > Reed

This exactly. Don't think Mirotic is really a realistic option, but I at least try to get him first. The other guy that I'd like is Tony Allen. I want the meanest, most physical defense in the league.

That comes directly from Dennis Lindsey. I can't recall the exact interview, but DL talked about discussions he and Quin had about team needs. A combo forward was specifically mentioned. I may try to find the link.

But link or not, you can see the logic. JJ was very valuable last year. And the Jazz, with Ingles and Hood at the 3, are extremely vulnerable against teams with a big wing.

TBH, I think the future of the Jazz rests in having great defenders at the guard positions, versatile 3&D forwards and Gobert. In that respect, a lot rests on Rubio, Exum and Mitchell at the 1/2. I'm not sure we have a 3 yet. As much as I like Hood, he isn't a very good defender and he's pretty weak physically. I think he's expendable in a deal to get a quality starter at the 3 or 4.

Tony Allen?

Why?

That's Mitchell's minutes.
Cuz he's a mother-****er, basically, and you could structure his deal like Diaw's to make his overpaid contract a trade chip.

That's also a legit question. I think with his strength and the shrinking NBA, you could play him as a 3.

We have tons of 2/3's. We don't need more.

Allen could easily play with any of Johnson, Jingles or Hood. Would love his work ethic, intensity and experience on this team. Just like with Joe Johnson last year. . . I think it pays off with helping the young guys learn how to be high level professionals.

We'd have to trade Burks, which seems unlikely.

We'd be taking minutes away from Mitchell, which would suck.

Probably take some minutes away from Exum too.

Hood is really more of a 2, he can play some 3, but you don't want him to play a lot of it.

Rubio - Hood - Ingles - Favors/Johnson - Gobert
Exum - Mitchell - ??? - Favors/Johnson - Bradley??

We don't need a 2. We need a 3/4. And a backup center. We're pretty set at guard.

We can sign Allen to replace Exum after we trade he and Favors to NY for Love. Then we can sign Deron to back up Rubio.
