Forgot to mention in my 1st post. This is his 4th game in 6 days. How many players play and shoot well while doing that?

It would seem he should be able to rectify this, especially as his frame bulks up... he certainly has the athletic ability to get into the teeth of the D. He uses the spin move a little too much in the lane which doesn't seem to help him get foul calls.

I agree. He definitely has the potential to draw fouls because of his physical style of play. Overall the attitude and work ethic will push him to be at least a decent player. If you get that with the 13th pick you can't complain. Truly I believe he will develop into one of our better players.

It's almost like there's more to offense than shooting.

Like? Rebounding is more of a defensive metric. As far as offensive rebounds, he grabs just 1 a game. He doesn't have some great A:T ratio. It's okay but nothing special. He doesn't get to the line a lot given the amount of playing time he gets. What else does he do that shows up in stats that proves he's adequate offensively?

Scoring by the basket...

Have you watched him play or just look at box scores?

This isn't a **** copout. This is a **** evalutation based off SUMMER LEAGUE. You said it yourself, the defensive potential looks elite and his shot looks smooth. That is all that matters, look at play style, moves, potential. Mitchell looks like a surefire NBA rotation player to me already. Also, we may have the best coaching staff in the biz to help with shot selection if you are legitimately worried about him shooting too much on a team where he is going to be the only NBA player other than Bradley.

Also his FGAs in Utah SL was 14. But now the Jazz lost Exum their primary SL scorer. Mitchell needs to give the Jazz FO as much video and data as he can do that the coaches can set up a training schedule and focus.

I'm not worried at all to this point.

Mitchell is not going to be some elite shooter right off the bat, he was a little shaky on jumpers and 3s in college and against NBA length it will be that much tougher. He also struggled at the rim in college at 56%.
He wouldn't have been available at 13 if he was the sure thing. No way, would have went top 6 with that athleticism.
Patience is needed with Mitchell, we all want an instant savior with Hayward leaving but it just doesn't work that way.

Mitchell has one 'meh' offensive game and we see threads like this. Remember summer league with Hood? He'd have one amazing game and then he'd shoot terribly the next. This happened more than once.

Summer League is a good way for guys to learn what they need to work on and better adjust to. And from what I've seen, Mitchell has the physical tools and the drive to improve on all aspects of his game.

The only concern I have for Mitchell is that he never learns how to jump off 1 foot and he always favors strong 2-foot plants that make it difficult for him to draw fouls or get his shot off in traffic.

i think it was Cy who said it or implied it earlier, but if Mitchell is Marcus Smart, the Jazz made a great pick at #13. Smart is damn good. When it was between Bradley, Crowder and Smart, Boston didn't want any part of getting rid of Smart.

He's not Marcus Smart, however. They have a lot of similarities, but Mitchell is the more pure shooter and is a more explosive athlete because he doesn't weigh 235 lbs. Smart, because of his sheer size and strength, is a bit more versatile defensively - can legitimately check 4s at times and keep them from getting good position in the post. But other than those things and the fact that Smart is crazy and Mitchell isn't crazy, they are fairly similar. Similar height/length, both excellent passers, both bulldogs on both ends, both tough and physicall, etc. I like Mitchell's upside a bit more because he isn't so thick and because his shooting stroke is so much more fundamentally sound - offensive upside is considerably greater.

Honestly tho, Hood is a below league average offensive player

Not worried the slightest about Smart scenario. Not worried about the early hype. Hayward is gone. The gap has to be somehow filled and the train of thoughts will canalize to different paths.

Isaiah Thomas and the play by play guy have about as much chemistry as our summer league team right now.

(Oops was supposed to be in the SL thread for the Jazz-Clippers game.
