NBA Free Agency Moves in General (related to the Jazz, but not just moves made by the Jazz)

". Tried RFA route again with Otto Porter. “As long as we have cap space, it is worth it to try. Didn’t cost us anything and took a FA off the market and ate up a bunch of cap space for a team we eventually need to pass.”"

Yup, Brooklyn is going to **** us in the *** next year.

That's why we should try to do an extension this year.

Sacramento Kings
1. "We had the best draft of anyone."

L O L
They got De'Aaron Fox, Justin Jackson and Harry Giles. All three could be eventual starters. Obviously Giles is a high risk/high reward pick.

I like what the Kings are doing:
1/2 - Hill, Fox, Hield
2/3 - Hield, Bogdanovic, Jackson
4 - Labissiere, Randolph, Giles
5 - Cauley-Stein, Labissiere

That's a great, young lineup, with depth and interchangeable parts. Kind of reminds me of the Utah philosophy. Divacs has done a good job so far rebuilding in the post-Cousins era.

I agree except Hill will be on the way back side of his career as the young ones start to hit their prime

I think they completely whiffed on their first two picks. Just my opinion. I think they will regret taking Fox over Smith Jr or Mitchell in years to come. I wasn't as high on Fox as other people were. I wouldn't have taken him in the top 10. He cannot shoot the three. The lack of an outside jumpshot is going to force him to have to drive to the rim often in order to be effective. And I worry about him going to the rim a lot at 170 pounds with super skinny limbs. I saw Jackson as a second round prospect and they took him at 15. He's not elite at any single skill. I think he's a backup wing at best. He has a game better suited for college basketball.

I think Jackson has an elite mid range game. Something a lot of these young basketball players don't have

$19 million per year though. . .

JJ, Sefalosha and Jerebko combined cost $20 million. #MoneyWellSpent
Contract is guaranteed for 2 years, with additional $1M guaranteed in Year 3. And they're still $6.6M below the salary cap. Overpay? Probably. But that's a great way to structure a contract. Gives Fox two years to develop into a starter. And if he isn't quite there yet, Hill could be brought back for an additional season. Hill's contract also decreases (20, 19, 18). Vlade clearly knows what he's doing.

AS to the 2nd part of your post, I agree. And add Udoh...4 solid backups for $23M.

"We think Rodney has the potential to be in that 18 points-per-game range," Lindsey said. "We had some perimeter talent become available to us. But we have to let Ricky have the ball, and we have to let Rodney become the offensive wing we know he can be. We didn't want to bring in anyone who could get in the way of Donovan, Dante and Rodney. We want them to develop."

I wonder which player might have been available to the Jazz that they turned down. My guess is the only position the Jazz are pursuing trade option for is PF.

Long term and short term that is the need going forward. I really wish we had found a way to get Kuzma. Kid would be a perfect fit imo.

He might be, I would rather get someone who is closer in age and development to Gobert personally. That's why I think Mirotic would have been great. I think Jazz should have pursued a sign and trade for him. Love could be a good fit as well I suppose.

Although I do think based on those statements Jazz are looking to upgrade the PF spot I still think Favor's is a good option if he can get healthy which DL claims he is. I think defensively Jazz need a good defender next to Gobert. It let's him take chances and it also makes it so teams can't just pull Gobert out of the paint and counteract our defense. We need two rim protectors. Offensively Favor's does a lot of things Gobert can't. Like post up and pick and pop. I think Favor's can and will extend the range on his shot. My only concern is if he can get and stay healthy, that is the only reason I would be okay with moving on from Favor's. Or if for some reason Favor's was asking for a trade behind closed doors. But my guess he wants to stay and start next year.

Of course Favors WANTS to stay. That's why he was bummed about Hayward getting that max contract because that meant the Jazz wouldn't have enough money to pay him next year. Now that Hayward is gone he can go about his business and get back to the player he was. At least, that's my take. The only question is his health.

What do you guys think of Ding Yangyuhang? He's been surprising ppl at the summer league. He's free to sign with any team right? He has been great.

Have you watched him play? He's got high basketball IQ and hustles. I've been watching him play here in Vegas and he's quite impressive. Summer league fans cheering MVP every time he scores or gets the ball, not that it matters.

He has been mostly bad. What are you watching?

Yeah, fans are cheering him because he is huge in China. If you haven't noticed Chinese fans are loyal as **** and it's caught on in Vegas.
