Julius Randle?

Chargers Jazz Angels

The future of the PF spot for the Jazz is the one position i am most concerned about at the moment.

Favors is a huge question mark because 1st his health and second his desire to stay with Utah. The fit along side Rudy is not ideal either but Favors could move his range out and he could be much more valuable.

Last is that he will be an UFA next summer so he could leave for nothing.

We know quin wants a 4 who can shoot the 3 ans open up the floor for out other players. Favors just doesn't seem to fit this mold.

There is the Draft but that can be a hit of a miss depending on where the Jazz will land.

There is also free agency and the biggest name will be Jabari parker but he will be restricted.

So that bring up my question with Randle. He will be restricted in 2018 but I am wondering with if he might be had in a trade. I am not sure what the future of the Lakers will look like but I am not sure that they want to offer him a huge contract next summer so save money for the summer of 2019 when James and others will be free agents.

The Lakers also have Kuzma who had an amazing summer league in addition to Larry nance jr who i am also a big fan of but i see him mostly as a great guy off the bench.

I am not proposing a trade because i am not sure what they jazz have that they would want.

Randle can actually rebound the ball and take it coast to coast which is a valuable asset.

He is a ok passer and shooter.

My assumption is that if you want Randle you would have to take the bad contract of either Clarkson or Deng.

Any way I was curious to see what you all thought?

Isn't he a sieve on defense? I realize that with better defenders around him and coaching, he could improve but I feel like his body and history defensively leaves little hope he can even be average. I always liked the guy and his style in college...I just wish he was a little bigger.

I am not sure of his defensive abilities.

Ghost of Derrick Favors is a better player than fully healthy Julius Randle. Randle will never have a game like Favors did when we closed out the Clippers.

Is he a stretch? What's his percentage from three? My first thought is that why do we need him when we have Jerebko? I could see it in the off-season if we move on from Favors though if we get him on a good contract. Love the leftiness.

His midrange shot % is the exact same as Favors. They both can't shoot 3's.

*Actaully Favors is slightly better from midrange this past year*. In Randle's first full season he shot 23% from midrange and bumped it up to 38 his past year. Favors was 39 this past year and 36% in both the two prior seasons.

Fans are so short sighted sometimes, so dramatic.

Favors has had ONE bad season and was played out of position all last year. Let the dude get healthy then we'll see.

The only knock Ive ever had on Favs is his FT shooting, he's never seemed to have improved on it which is concerning.

No. Favors at %50 is better than Randle. Just saying you'd have to maybe take on Deng makes any credibility you may have had disappear. The Jazz will not take Deng for anything less than Ingram. Randle is significantly less than Ingram.

Favors is far from an ideal fit, but if you're looking for a replacement Randle isn't any better. He's worked a lot on his body but he's barely progressed in anything else. Sure, he can handle the ball (but you have Rubio, Exum and -to some extent- Mitchell for that already), but he offers no 3-pt shot, not much of a mid-range game yet and no defense whatsoever.

actually his defense was much improved last year

I saw Randle play the Cavs in Cleveland last December. He and Clarkson were the best players on the floor that night for the Lakers. I didn't pay a lot of attention to Randle's defense but what really impressed me was his footwork in the paint and his ability to finish. He had a few plays where it was evident he's a coordinated guy who can take contact and keep his balance. He would run the fast break and be 'the trailer' (a term my high school basketball coach used), where he's running into the paint, ready to be passed the ball for an easy score.

I think Walton covets Randle and he'll stay with the Lakers. I like Favors - I'm hoping he can stay healthy.
