Jazz Scrimmage 2pm MT Time Today

The thought of Neto as our backup PG straight up infuriates me. People need to get that idea out of their heads, he cant guard ANYONE in this league, sure he tries hard but come on, we only just got rid of Mack ffs.

Id rather see Burks, DM, Ingles play backup PG if Exum falters for any reason.

To say Exum is expendable because Neto is there is ****ing stupid!

No, he's expendable because of Rubio and the fact that Dante will want to start. So, it's going to be either Rubio or Dante. Neto will probably continue as the third-string PG unless he makes continual improvement, and then we have Mitchell who could be the combo guard.

Things I took away from scrimmage:

* Hood isn't anywhere near as assertive as he needs to be as a "primary scorer". Dude was invisible.

* Donovan Mitchell has a scorers mentality and inst afraid to take his shots.

* Joe Buckets looks like the only capable of scoring whenever he wants.

* Rubio has REALLY active hands, stripped Thabo 3 times at one point

* Love the Thabo/Ingles match up

* Looks like our PGs will be standing in the corner again after they hand off.

* Jerebko could be a better version of Diaw for us, runs the floor, great passer, think he outplayed Favors (who did nothing).

* Exum still refusing to finish with his left hand and terrible finishing. Saw a lot more bad than good today.

* Would have liked to see Rubio and Exum playing together.

* Seen enough of Neto already, pretty ordinary when he cant thrown blind lobs to Rudy.

* I really like Bradley, still dont like Favs as backup C.

* Rubios shot looks awful, really flat. Believe he will sort it out though, hopefully this season and not next.

Bradley is an interesting one for sure. I thought he played solidly but not great as some have stated. I was impressed with his lateral movement at times keeping up with his man. He is also deceptively athletic when he wants to be. The problem I see, when he is fed the ball right under the rim, or he rips down the offensive rebound, he goes up very weak when there's a defender there. I know that he can rise and stuff it, I've seen it before, but there were many weak efforts that he tried to put up right under the rim. The big fella needs to get his knees into it, get some power and aggression when he is putting it up.

Mitchell's offensive work was impressive, the floaters were on point, and his outside shot was generally on point. Dante's second half was good, went to the line at will, he is capable of getting past anybody I feel like. 2 bad turnovers though that were disappointing. Hood seemed to have been locked in with his shot, otherwise I still didn't see the Rodney that needs to attack and get to the line. He really needs to add that to his game. Rubio's passing was a thing of beauty, although same old Ricky when shooting. Burks looked lively, especially in the first half, and that's great news. Rudy was Rudy, probably best player on the floor.

Was anybody just slightly disappointed with Jerebko?

I also think we should prepare for our goodbyes with Bolomboy.

When has Dante ever said he wants/needs to start?? He's said he is "a starter in this league" and "a PG" thats it. Dante will be happy with just playing every night, 20+ mins preferably, But he will NOT be happy if he is played behind Neto in the rotation again.

He didnt hit his 3's but I really like how he competed and his passing.

I don't agree with those 2 points, especially the second one.

If Jerebko wasn't the dude receiving the ball from the point guard at the top of the three point line, to swing it to the other side, as we usually do to start the play, I'm not sure I would have noticed him.

He got maybe one bucket, but he's too small and athletically limited to get shots off or to defend the bigger guards.

HE had a nice stretch in the third quarter I think where he hit Gobert on a couple lobs out of PnR. I think that's what people are remembering. I've always thought Neto could be a solid backup PG if given the role. I don't want him to have that role this year, though.

After watching the scrimmage again, I may have been a bit harsh on Jerebko. Solid passing and some great activity at the top of the plays with his screens etc. So I retract my statement, my bad.

He looks like a good player, but he needs to be able to hit threes and stretch the floor to be effective. More than any other player I think he needs to be shooting 38% or better to be really valuable.

Yeah I've done a total 180 on Jerebko today, we all make mistakes. His passing was good, good activity, ran the floor really well at 6'10. Threes weren't falling as Elan Prodigy said but I trust in him to be at least solid in that department.

Really. I don't think he sees himself that way though. So you think he will be a combo guard like Mitchell then?

At this early moment, Exum looks like a back-up combo guard with speed a la Leandro Barbosa. He's almost a guy you can run plays through, but not quite.

So far, it looks as though our offense will be Hood and Ingles spacing the floor on either side while Rubio and Gobert run pick-and-rolls from the top of the key. Then mix in a little secondary action. Jazz are better with Joe Johnson at the 4 than Favors. Favors' only role with the starting unit seems to be to offensive rebound and be a low-priority outlet if something goes wrong. He may be able to swing up to the foul line area and shoot s little jumper once in a while.

Remember Favors has had his best games when Rudy was out of the line-up.

Exum hit a 3, hit a mid-range jumper after beating Rubio off the dribble, nailed a drive with a lay-up over two big defenders (one was Eric Griffin), and he drew fouls left and right everytime he drove in the 4th quarter.

Who said that he should be behind Neto -- I think you misread or misinterpreted my post? And he may not want to start this year or even next, but he certainly will want to start two years from now if he continues to improve.

I like the idea of moving Hood to the 3 and putting Mitchell at the 2. It gives us more speed and tenacity on the perimeter.

I think the Jazz's best line-up will be:

Rubio
Mitchell
Hood
Johnson
Gobert

I wouldn't be surprised if this line-up closes games.

Exum and Burks are good too, but they have a hard time blending in to a motion-based offense.
