Deron Williams would have been fifth-team All-NBA

You know, if such a thing existed.

The full voting for the All-NBA teams came out today and can be viewed here.

This seems to confirm that the popular view of Williams' contributions is dimming. At this time last season the common line of thought was that Williams was the best point guard in the league. Williams also made Second Team All-NBA last season to go along with that rep. Some of the decline is likely injury related.

The only other Utah player showing up in the voting is Al Jefferson, who received as many votes as Marc Gasol and Kendrick Perkins. One gets the feeling that if we held the vote again today that Marc Gasol would do notably better.

Some of the decline is likely injury related.
Deron was injured and he didn't win. Regardless of their numbers - if PG's don't win they don't receive votes.
Despite his injury and the trade, DWill still joined Chris Paul as the only two players in the past 18 seasons to average 20 points and 10 assists. He may have had a relatively poor season - but he's still a top-3 PG in the NBA.

Manu made fourth, Crymelo didn't.

This list goes to show how incredibly overpaid so many NBA players are. Way too many (AK) max money (AK) contracts, like, say, AK, D-Will, Rashard Lewis, and did I mention Andre "lil' birdy" Kirilenko?

If a player is great offensively and poor defensively (Carmelo, Gay, Rashard Lewis) he is going to be over paid. Oddly AK doesn't fit that mold. He was never a great scorer. He is crafty but not even close to lights out like most max players.

I count Sixth.

Rose
Westbrook
Paul
Rondo
Parker
Williams
Nash (2 votes behind Deron)

Unless he goes to LA I doubt he ever makes it higher than third again.

How many all-nba first teams did Stockton make? Just curious.

I think you left out AK.

They group "guards" together so you can have two point guards on a single All-NBA team rather than strictly segregating players into point guards and shooting guards. That's why he would have been Fifth-Team.

You'll note that last season the two guards on the Second Team were Steve Nash and Deron Williams.

So it's:

Rose
Kobe

Westbrook
Wade

Chris Paul
Manu

Rondo
Parker

Deron
Nash

Westbrook over Paul is laughable

Westbrook is an... impressive scorer. But he's a little bitch for one, he's well on his way to being one of the premier chuckers in the league, and he won't pass. Before it's all said and done, I honestly think he'll be traded.

That's a relatively arbitrary benchmark designed to make the stat look impressive through exclusivity.

Make it 20 points and 9.5 assists and Kevin Johnson qualifies as well. Make the time window 2 years longer and Kevin Johnson also makes the cut.

The stat manages to exclude Nash by a full 1.2 ppg, etc etc.

I could structure a stat to make Rod Strickland look singular.

but he's still a top-3 PG in the NBA.

Of the Rose/Chris Paul/Westbrook/Rondo/Nash group, who do you believe Deron is presently better than?

Only two, but the reality is that for most of his career there was really only one slot open because Jordan had permanent dibs on the other one. For whatever reason, most years that slot was filled by Magic, Gary Payton, and even (twice!) Penny Hardaway.

Healthy? And with a big that can catch a pass and finish? At the same level or above all of them, in an apples vs. oranges kind of way. No one in the NBA can compete with Rose or Westbrook's speed and explosiveness, but basketball isn't track and field.

And while Deron isn't the best at any singular thing, I think he's in the conversation for everything that isn't rebounding (who cares?) or explosiveness/speed.

Of the Rose/Chris Paul/Westbrook/Rondo/Nash group, who do you believe Deron is presently better than?

Nash, because he's older now.
Paul, because Deron takes it to him when they play.
Rondo, maybe some nights because Deron can shoot.
