Last Restaurant You Ate At?

I went to Tacos 27 the other day, it's at the Fashion Place Mall.

It wasn't bad but I didn't like it. Very modern clean upscale decor. You can get a small order or a large order, the small is two tacos, large is four tacos. Prices vary based on what you get but it's about $7 for the small order and $14 for the large. No sides. I ordered a side of cilantro lime rice and I got about 2-3 tablespoons of rice in a separate porcelain dish for I think $1, the rice wasn't very flavorful. The waitress described the tacos as "street-style" but they were much larger than a typical street taco and they all had fancy ingredients like pickled onion, radishes, etc. They do have an extensive, and overpriced, alcohol menu. They serve drinks with a focus on fancy presentation.

I like my tacos places divey and cheap. Tacos 27 is trying to appeal to well to do women.

Man i hate tex-mex, its been another recent culinary fad here (burger joints another) Being appealing to well to do women has always been a goal of mine.

It’s been too long since I’ve had street tacos. I feel that coming my way soon.

Just went to Dukes at Waikiki .. not bad for a tourist joint. Excellent burger

That place isnt bad but Hawaii has some of the best food on the planet. Hopefully you find some better places to eat. Most of the time I go to Hawaii is for the list of places I want to eat at and am craving. Sometimes its to see my family but thats still after I get food.

I've been to Hawaii, Oahu only, four times for about 5 days each visit. It was in the Navy and I've got to say it kind of sucks being in cool places with sailors who just want to be reminded of home and who don't want to explore different cuisine. I was super lucky on my last visit there that my sister and her husband were also there because they were purchasing rental properties for their business. Finally saw the north shore, ate at the shrimp trucks, got outside Honolulu, got some shaved ice at Matsumoto. Last time they visited us in SLC they said for my wife and my 20th anniversary they were going to fly us to Hawaii and put us up in one of their rental properties. Will be the first time I will be able to go someplace with my wife that I went ot in the Navy. I can't even express how much I just wanted to have my wife with me when I had shore leave (it's actually called "overseas liberty" in the Navy, but I assume people are more familiar with the term shore leave). Sailors just want to eat food they are familiar with and get drunk. I managed to drag people to interesting restaurants here and there, but they were just accommodating me. Hawaii will be awesome, but the place I want to take my wife is Hong Kong. I missed out on so much there because I was stuck with sailors. Hong Kong is amazing. We saw sooo many places that had lines down the street. I wanted to stand in those lines and eat that food, but I couldn't convince anyone else it was worth it. It was always time to hit the bars.

Yeah last time we were here we are our most of the time and had some awesome seafood particularly. Self catering mostly this time to keep costs down but heading out for a special dinner in a couple nights at an expensive place so hopes are high for some amazing local food.

Last saturday had wifes birthday at www.daohua.ee
We had to preorder some food, because about 90 chinese persons (tourists) visited that place during the evening, too.
Recommended, if you come to visit Tallinn and for some reason want to eat chinese food.

I'll put it at the top of my list if i'm ever in Tallinn, on a similar note, i'm taking my new lady friend here next Friday.

Great seafood joint.

Rubashov, is that rumor true, that all great seafood that is catched in Australian coast is shipped to Japan and australians have to eat crappier Malayasian or Thailand seafood produced in farms?

Sort of, a friend of mine is a Cray-fisherman and fireworks fan, most of the stuff he catches gets shipped to China and Japan, they pay the best prices. But as long as you buy fresh from the market you will normally get Australian fish, you will pay more but you at least have the choice. The supermarkets mostly sell cheap imported stuff, pre-packaged and so on.

Meh. Very mixed bag. It's a very recognized, respected restaurant in my area (which is a hotbed for food) but my wife and I found it average. We got an app as we sat by the bar, waiting for our table. Lamb Quesadillas with feta cheese, olives, tomato and yogurt tzatziki. Meh. Thin. Could barely make out any lamb. We were then seated and got a butternut squash soup and another dish to start. My wife thought the soup was just average. I found it better than that. I'd give it a B. But it was missing something. A little spice. My mother who is an extraordinary cook has made one before that's the best I ever had. I know she puts a little pepper in it. That would've helped. We also got Whipped Fresh Ricotta with a honey drizzle, wine poached pears, toasted almonds, aged balsamico, cracked pepper and crostini. That was very good. A solid A-. I thought the crostini could have been herbed or fresher but my wife found that insignificant as it's the conduit to the ricotta. Whatever. Splitting hairs. It was still very good regardless. For an entree, my wife got a rigatoni with pumpkin & goat cheese sautéed with scallion, butter, cream, sage & roasted walnuts and topped w/ toasted breadcrumbs. I had some and we both found it excellent though the pumpkin (chunks) a bit hard. Not sure if you can cook that longer and make it softer but it's sort of an odd eat. Overall though, the dish was great. I ordered a grilled ribeye that came with fries and chipotle ketchup. Mistake. This is the second or third time I've ordered a ribeye from a non-steakhouse and every time I regret it. It was medicore at best. It was cooked medium rare like I asked but there was basically no flavor so the cut sort of sucked as did the chef who cooked it. The fries were even bad too. Thin ones that tasted microwaved. I'll go back again within the next year but will be sure to order something more Italian as that's the restaurant's wheelhouse. We then each got desserts. Both were very good. Overall, I'd give the place a B-/C+. Great ambiance though very loud. But the food was a bit hit or miss.

Ate at the Philadelphian in Sandy, again, yesterday. Pepper steak with everything.

A few years ago I ordered the butternut soup at Wolfgang Puck's in LA. It was served with a ribbon of shriacha sauce on top. Very, very good. Added a little heat without overwhelming the soup flavor. One of my favorite soups ever since.

Yep, that's perfect for it.

That sounds expensive af.

On Saturday drove out to eat at one of my favorite restaurants, Hot Dynasty, only to find out it has been closed and CY Noodle House has taken over their space.

I'm pretty devastated. I don't know any other place in SLC that offers some of the flavors you could get at Hot Dynasty. They were very unique.

I've been to the new one and had their pork intestines stir fry. It was okay. Hot Dynasty was much better. This one had more customers than all of my visits to the old one combined.

RIP Hot Dynasty. You won't be forgotten.

Yeah it was packed when I got there.

No one cares about your food blog from Jersey, guy.

My gf and I just ate at J and C House in Riverton. They make great sushi and I definitely recommend it. 10x's better and cheaper than Tsunami.
