He was good last night... but they aren't giving him up for the package that was suggested and I think they may be the best team in the east if the cavs don't get it together.
I read about their starters having problems together in the playoffs, etc. DeRozan is 28 but it seems like he could still do well as he ages. Probably a pipe dream, but we need scoring and he could deliver.
DeRozan had his rare good shooting from three game against us. He can't shoot the three ball well though. If he ever does he will be pretty scary player. At this point I doubt he develops a three point shot though.

Living in Toronto I watched Derozan grow up and turn into an all-star. He is one of the best mid range shooters in the league if not the best one. He can slash and finish in most situations. He can hit the 3 too but that ain't his forte. If we had him he would have never pulled a Hayward

Hate the Celtics, but they are a helluva team. Ainge has drafted very well, while DL has wasted pick after pick on chasing a PG. Celtics have no holes because they've had a bevy of good young talent. Jazz are still missing a PF and another scorer. Hayward leaving was an unexpected blow, but DL has had chances to add talent and has not, relying on Quin to turn frogs into princes and reaching for players in the draft who never panned out such as Burke and Lyles. Jazz are in mid-tier hell unless Lindsey can pull a rabbit out of the hat at the trade deadline, or catch lightning in a bottle with a late lottery pick. And that's assuming the Jazz don't sneak into the playoffs. I don't see them doing that, though...unless a significant trade happens.

Blowing it up means trading your talent for picks/young guys and starting over. If we were blowing it up we'd be trading Rudy.
If we traded Favors, Burks or Hood I wouldn't care - I've soured on those three - especially Hood. If we could sign Favors or Burks for cheap then I'd be open to it but I think Hood would get overpaid by some other team.

Jazz can get down to about $64M by renouncing all free agents (which would include Favs, Hood and Exum), not picking up options for Sefolosha, Jerebko and Udoh and finding a trade partner for Burks.
I think this might what the "blow it up" proposal was for the OP, although I disagree on getting rid of Rubio.
To me, the key pieces for the Jazz to retain are Gobert, Mitchell and Rubio. Ingles is decent value at his salary and a great "glue" guy. I'd keep him in the rotation, although not necessarily as a starter. Bradley is a decent prospect, so try to keep him. If I were Lindsey, I'd also try to bring Sefolosha and Udoh back.
Main goal is to find starters at the 3 and 4, one coming as a free agent (or via trade) and one via the draft (or by trading our draft pick).

This is a great analysis, however. . . if the Jazz have decided to move on from Favors, Burks and/or Hood (doubtful) then they need to try to package them together at the deadline. Better to get something than to just renounce them.

I think he was trying to get as much salary space as possible in his scenario.
If we trade those guys for something then wouldn’t we have to pay the guys we get back in the trade?

Yes, I agree. But getting "something" - as in, a mid-tier player signed for multiple seasons, would then mean using cap space on more depth. Jazz need impact players, not backups. So getting "nothing" in return by renouncing them may be the best way to go...if Lindsey can get a FA to commit. I'd try for a late 1st from a contender for Favors. Derrick is great depth at the 4/5.
Burks is worthless at his salary, Jazz are going to have to pay a team to get rid of him. Jazz wouldn't need to renounce the rights to Hood or Exum until they sign an offer sheet with a free agent.

2) Exum could be a key member moving forward
3) Ingles is prob a key glue guy
4) Everything else is negotiable (even Ingles obviously)
Do everything you can to get Love or the equivalent.
This is going nowhere fast.
And I won't gloat just after two bad games - but I don't trust this new Ricky 'Ray Allen' Rubio thingy

What is the point of getting rid of Exum at this stage??
This team eventually needs to get to the ft line. Surely that was one area he was projecting to improve upon.
Favors looks like he's going through the motions.
