Following Potential 2018 Draftees

yeah, competition and all, but Bagley's first two games have been pretty solid. everybody plays bad teams the first couple times out, but not many guys have gotten 25 and 10 on 65% FGs in their first two games. not to mention he will play the entire season at age 18 so he's one of the younger frosh's in the country. the michigan state game should be interesting.

At the college level, Bagley is physically dominant. In the pros he's going to look more like Marquese Chriss, but he's got more motor and aggression than Chriss.

Jaren Jackson sure looks good physically as a PF/C. He gets all over the floor to challenge shots. He has enough length and motor to really affect the game. I was worried about his mobility, but it looks good. Now the question is whether he can shoot.

Then we can rotate Exum, Mitchell, Hood and Rubio at the guard spots.

I'm keyed in on Kevin Knox, Jared Vanderbilt, Jaren Jackson Jr., Robert Williams and Justin Jackson. I'd really like the Jazz to come away with two guys in this draft. Both Vanderbilt and Knox can likely play at the 3 while Williams and Jackson would give us length and some shooting at the 4. The Jazz could be one of the longest, most versatile teams in the league.

Bagley is much more skilled and smart player than Chriss, much better defender... different type of player. The only thing similar between the two is that they jump high.

Consensus Top 10 picks so far (call it pre-season) seem to be:

1 - 5
Luca Doncic
Michael Porter Jr.
Deandre Ayton
Marvin Bagley
Mo Bamba

6 - 10
Kevin Knox
Miles Bridges
Jaren Jackson
Colin Sexton
Robert Williams

There seems to be a talent drop-off after the top 10 or so. Other guys who could potentially go lottery include:

Trevon Duval
Hamidou Diallo
Wendell Carter
Bruce Brown
Lonnie Walker
Jared Vanderbilt

The more I look at Luca Doncic, the more I'm sure he's the #1 pick and it's not close. He's better than Ben Simmons right now, quite a bit better. He's unreal.

I was comparing their physical profiles. Bagley is a guy that's physically dominating in college, but won't be able to get by on that consistently in the pros.

Doncic is like a mix of James Harden and Ricky Rubio. I'm late on the bandwagon.

DX updated the 2018 mock too. It's actually pretty good. They finally started giving P.J. Dozier his due respect.

Rawle Alkins at 40 is my biggest complaint. They prefer Donovann Mitchell, who's 29th in the 2017 mock. I certainly don't.

Not crazy bout the order of the top-8

lolz

I saw SI had a post with the Jazz taking Trevon DeVal from Duke. On paper, he looks almost identical to Mitchell, with perhaps, better passing/vision.

Here’s a guy with a chance to shoot up draft boards before June. Duval is one of the best athletes in this potential class, at 6’3” with a 6’9” wingspan and impressive instincts and lateral quickness on defense. He knows how to leverage his size against smaller guards, and has long thrived simply by being bigger and faster than other players. He’s a beast in transition and has all the physical tools. Star-laden Duke will ask Duval to play a more focused role this season and distribute the basketball, which should ultimately be good for his development. Given that he struggles at times to play under control and make decisions, and is not a comfortable jump shooter at this stage, Duval is still a bit of a wild card. Scouts will look for improvements in those areas, and if he proves he can stand out in the halfcourt game his stock will rise.
SI's write up.

IF Duval had a reliable jump shot he would be in conversation for top 5 but he is so inconsistent it is sad.

Did you guys watch him in high school or something because he's literally 1 game into his college career and shooting 64.7%?

I dont think there is any such thing as a consensus top 10 in November.
