Is Favors in the long-term plans at this point?

I'd make them agree to buy him out before I sent him there. Let him pick his destination... He is a contract filler in the deal. I know he is much better than that, but the contract is too big for a contender to acquire (imo).

It would be doing him a solid and allow us to roll forward with Thabo/Jonas getting the stretch minutes.
If Joe was down with that, then I'd be down. I'd like to see him on a contender as long as it wasn't GSW or HOU

Was listening to the Vecenie tony Jones podcast... was pretty good... Things that are concrete:

Favs is getting traded or leaving in FA... He will not be back.
Gordon wanted Rubio and that is why we got him. This gave me hope that DL is not married to the project.
He continues to say we want to be players in FA and that we have max space. We do not have space unless we waive Exum's cap hold and rid ourselves of one of Rubio or Burks. I've heard this enough to believe that DL is selling the narrative, but not sure why our local coverage doesn't do the math and stop saying we have max space.

Any way... good podcast. I enjoy Tony Jones.

I'd want his opinion first, but assume he would be okay if he was a FA. I would not banish him to Sacramento... that is bad form.

Unless they want Jabari Parker for the max there really isn't much bid on in 2018.

It doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I think the Parker deal gets matched. I think Aaron Gordon is the other top shelf guy I would want and he will get matched. I just keep hearing the narrative that we want to go out in FA and think 2019 is a much better bet.

The Jazz could go out and overpay for a bunch of role players. Cuz, that is a thing that works.

Overpay for Avery Bradley on a one-year deal.

**** now I'm worried that Mirotic might play well enough to where the Bulls actually want to keep him.

He looked really good. I think he runs hot and cold though. I’m not sure why they do a straight swap... Lopez, Felicio, portis, Lauri... they need backcourt help.

I mean, Mirotic has a player option for next year. So if he plays well, he will almost certainly decline it to get a new contract. So they have some incentive to trade him, but yeah, they might not do a 1 for 1 deal w/ Favors, but idk.

I believe it’s a team option or unguaranteed... valuable contract to have.

No, it's a "club" option, meaning both parties have to agree to him staying for him to stay. He can leave if he wants to though. At least that's what I'm pretty sure it is.

He also has veto rights on any trade.

Club meanin team option... it’s a team option. I think you can have a mutual opt out but a mutual opt in is not something I’ve ever heard of. He’s basically an expiring. No one wants to pay his option next year... unless he keeps putting up 20 pts per game.

I do wonder if Mirotic gets traded to aid the tank... I don't think they pick up his option and if he keeps helping them win it really starts to hurt their tank... Lavine coming back soon may produce some wins too... they could move from 1 to 4-5 in the blink of an eye.

Here's a question - what's the chance by the end of the year(trade deadline) the league sees Wiggins' contract similarly to how they saw Oladipo's contract last summer? He is having a similarly disappointing season to what Oladipo had last year. Actually ... he's arguably worse and is on a larger and longer contract:

Would you be willing to put him in Quin's system as our SF of the future if he came cheap?

Why wouldn't they pick up his option? They have to meet the salary floor, which is the whole reason they gave him 13 million.

Uggh, I don't like Wiggins at all. I didnt like Oladipo either, but at least he could shoot and was a more committed defender.

I would, but I think there is almost zero chance they move him this offseason. Maybe next year at the deadline if they want to keep Jimmy instead.

Next year they may see more value in taking on dead salary and they have Lauri and Portis (and Felicio too I guess) signed long term. I get the feeling they would have moved him if they could have after the fight. Seemed like the team and locker room really backed Portis.

Don't get me wrong, it's hell of a risk because that contract has the possibility of looking really really ugly. You have to really believe that if you put him in our system with our players and our coaching staff he will develop and do better. IMO there is a high ceiling with him too so it would be a high-risk high-reward play for sure.
