In summer 2016 Hayward had never made an All Star appearance and had never even helped us to the playoffs...
Yes, he helped us make the playoffs before that year. We all knew he was an All-Star talent. Making All-Star team is more of a formality. Mike Conley has never made one, but he is (or at least should be) considered an All-Star talent.

Memo was an atrocious defender in any situation besides post-ups. If Niko is worse than Memo guarding in space then I want no part of him.

Ya memo played pretty much all his minutes at the 5 during an era when bigs didn’t shoot 3’s near as much as they do today. I remember his defense being ok in the paint. Neither guy is a good defender imo but I think memo defending the paint (where he spent most of his time on defense) is better than niko defense. Niko is probably a better perimeter defender though just cause he moves better than memo

Dude, help D. The league wasn't lumbering post-up players then, either. It was sure nice to face the team that had one in 2007, but Memo's performance against Yao is immaterial to his ability to protect the rim or really be effective in team defense in a general sense.

Memo was terrible at team defense.

Weren't the Jazz always in the top half of the league in defensive rating during the Memo years?

Those teams were offensive juggernauts but I doubt Boozer and Memo would get us top half in defensive rating... especially because that was during the Sloan foul everybody all the time years.

I hate the guy as much as the next jazz fan but Hayward was freaking good. He did a lot more than Hood and was a good defender.

Hood does one thing and he does it sort of efficiently. He is a below average defender... someone could argue average but he’s been worse this year imo.

Hood and Hayward aren’t a discussion. ... like at all.

Okur's final year w/ heavy minutes and starting all his game the Jazz were the 10th rated defensive team.

The year Memo stopped playing (well he only played 13 games), 2010-2011, the Jazz dropped to 20th.

I think we just remember the Jazz getting destroyed by the Lakers, but they must have defended everyone else really well.

Top-15 some years = really well?

Okay.

Okay.
Yeah, 3 of the 5 years Okur was in Utah. Top 10 twice and 14th the other.

I mean, we as Jazz fans act like Boozer/Okur were the worst defenders of all time, but the stats dont reflect that.

They were pretty bad, but AK, Millsap, and others were good. D-Will was fine.

I think a Boozer Okur frontcourt would get lit up in today's NBA. You couldn't go small on Booze because he'd murder guys on the offensive glass. I think teams would put a big wing on Okur and live with him posting up.

Okur and Niko are different though. Outside of being white guys that can shoot I don't see a ton of similarities.

I remember D-Will being elite defensively before the injuries got to him.

We should go for King's Bogdanovic to pair up with Mitchell. Let Joerger have his Hood
That'd actually kind of interest me. I think Bogdan is much better than Fournier plus the Jazz would have his RFA after his contract is up unlike Fournier.

I love you.

The Kings have a full boner for Bogdan... you ain't getting him with Hood.
