I think Crowders personality will mesh very well with Gobert and Ingles personality.
@ MiamiOf all of the players on the Jazz, Hood was the only one who had the potential to resent Mitchell's rising fame. I sometimes felt that Hood pressed too much on offense in trying to outshine DM. My memory isn't trustworthy, but I can't think of a single game where both Hood and DM shined.
Rodney mostly provided nothing or net negative play. Dude was wildly unreliable, also was a slow decision-maker and weak passer. While I like what Crowder provides on defence on offence he is nowhere near Hood. Kind of disappointed but understand why Jazz did it. Wish Rodney all the best.
So you expect Crowder to be more reliable, better passer and better decision maker? Not sure it will be enough to offset Hood's scoring and 3 pt shooting.Rodney mostly provided nothing or net negative play. Dude was wildly unreliable, also was a slow decision-maker and weak passer.
Why did we include cash in this trade?
My hope is this won't be the case with Exum. Obviously, he and Mitchell can play together (and play together well) but I worry that Mitchell's meteoric rise will have Dante pressing to be viewed as a similar caliber player.
Again, Rodney was an effective scorer in 1/4 to 1/3 of games. And in any of those games, he gives you very little of anything else statistically or intangibly. So you expect Crowder to be more reliable, better passer and better decision maker? Crowder wasn’t brought in to replace Hood’s offense. He’s a defensive stopper at the 3/4 and a stretch 4 - on a cheap contract if Favors leaves next offseason. Royce O’Neale (and maybe Burks) will be asked to shoulder more of the scoring load for the bench unit. While I like what Crowder provides on defence on offence he is nowhere near Hood. I don't think we can fully evaluate the trade until we see what the Jazz do in free agency. With Hood, Johnson and Favors off the books, they can throw max money at Jabari or Aaron Gordon in free agency. In a tight FA market, the Jazz might be players.
We. Don't. Have. Max. Space.
This may make it more likely we try and bargain hunt with our MLE. We don't have functional space really at all. I think your starting lineup next year is Rubio, DM, Ingles, Crowder, Gobert... I think we try and sign a bench scorer like Will Barton, Wayne Ellington (a little old), Tyreke Evans with our MLE. We might also trade some of our unguaranteeds for bad salary to move up the draft board or get additional picks... or for a guy like Evan Fournier.
Low ball him $15-17 million, i guess that is the new NBA, but there is no way I would pay him that amount. I doubt he gets that amount nevertheless I was a big fan of Rodney's but he is not reliable all the time and if his shot isn't going he doesn't really do anything else. I wish him well but there is no way I want to pay him that kind of money. This trade is horrible: Why? Because there are not a lot of teams that can offer Rodney a max contract this summer and there's more free agents than money, so Utah could've low balled him into a 15-17 mil a year deal that's cost efficient for a 2nd/3rd option on offense. Crowder is in a slump and the value of Hood should equal the Nets first provided we take back a bad contract.
I obviously don't know if Rodney wanted out or if the team wanted to get rid of him for whatever reason. I'm just not psyched about the return.
