Donovan Mitchell All Star Weekend Thread

Yeah I'm just glad he didn't get injured doing something silly. I mean when he was gonna jump over 3 people my heart sorta sank a bit, like something bad was gonna happen. Then he made them all crouch down which made me feel better.
Funny thing is he did not even originally get invited to a contest that he won. Suck on that mainstream!

He landed awkwardly on that dunk too.

Edit: There's a video online that theories why DRose got injured so much. It basically breaks down how he lands after dunks and jumping. He pretty much used to land exactly like Mitchell does on this dunk. Yikes.

Calm down about Donovan? I’ve got all the faith in the world this kid will take this team to the conference finals with Rudy in the coming years....I loved the DWill, Booze, Okur days. As an individual player Donovan came at the right time, had the right attitude, and was the perfect gift to this fanbase and organization and has had the largest affect on both this quickly in his career. Full faith in Donovan, and he will never cease to impress me.

Here’s his post dunk contest press conference

Man he's awesome. Wow!

I’ve actually seen that in comments several times on his highlight videos....and he does land similarly. As fun as his in game dunks are, I’d rather he save those knees and is careful with them. He lands like that a lot, and comes down so hard on one knee a lot of times. That Sacramento dunk where he split the double team had a landing that wasn’t great.

Here's the full press conference afterwards.

Lots of interesting tidbits like he has always watched Vince dunking when he was growing up and a real inspiration to him. And that he hasn't been able to make that Vince Carter dunk for half a year, and tried it in the morning of the dunk and couldn't even make it. So to be able to make it on the night was BIG for him.

So to all the HATERS who tried to cheapen this accomplishment and said 'OH, I hate it when they bring back old dunks' OR 'OH he didn't jump as high as Carter did' - well, seriously, you should just shut it.

I don't see why Donovan is getting crap for copying. Larry literally did the same thing with his dad

fantastic, thanks for posting. I teared up a bit when he got emotional talking about his sister. And what player wouldn't want to come play for the Jazz after the stuff he said at the end?

lmao

Everyone was rooting for Donovan dude. No one here rooted against him.

LOAP was saying "if you cant say anything positive, dont say anything at all against a Jazz player", so he was being a hypocrite.

Except that's not what I was saying. Okur is a prominent public figure with ties, off and on, with the Jazz organization. His responsibilities are not the same as a random message board fan like me. I don't think people shouldn't be critical of our team or of players on the team. I do think we should think carefully about how expressing those opinions says a lot about who we personally are.

He doesnt work for the Jazz. He is entitled to his opinion. He doesnt have to rid the Jazz's dick for the rest of his life.

Yup. And I'm entitled to say he looked like a jerk last night for no good reason. Definitely lowered my opinion of him. He doesn't know or care, but whatever.

I couldn't agree more. Has anyone seen his dad at any events?
I’m pretty sure his dad is in the picture with Greg Miller and Steve Starks and everyone. I think Donovan’s dad is always there to support but is probably busy a lot with the Mets and Donovan makes it a point to give everything he can to his mother and sister.

Here’s an interview with his dad from when he was at Louisville

Someone posted their opinion on a subjective dunk competition so my opinion is now lower of that person and I'll keep name calling him to get my point across, you know, cause this is class.

He doesnt have responsibilities. He doesnt work for the Jazz anymore. He last worked for the Suns. The Jazz havent wanted him around for a while, he doesnt have to schmooze up to the new rookie.
