Great Article on Tony Bradley's Season

An NBA affiliated G-League team can’t even get first class seats for their 7 foot players?? They’d rather destroy the knees of players that they are hopeful will be contributors on the real team before long?

That’s horrible.

First class cost a **** ton of money.

To us schmoes. If the Jazz had to give the Stars a bit of money for their 7 foot dude to get first class it wouldn’t even be a dent.
If you are taller than 6' flying coach hurts your knees. They would have to get it for everyone.

IDK all the logistics, but I'm guessing funding a G-League team is costly because you arent getting much of any financial return.

I guess, I mean if it was as obvious as I’m making it then they’d just do it. But man, from coach to a chartered flight and only Epke Udoh standing in your way. It’d be hard not to be salty.

That was the part that stood out to me as well - the coach seating. I mean it's bizarre. The Jazz have 3 million dollars invested in Tony Bradley alone, and he's compared to everyone from Clifford Rozier to Blake Griffin, even to Kareem. He's got a bigger wingspan than Dwight Howard and Anthony Davis (7'4" vs 7'0"). Surely, had he stayed with the Tar Heels, he'd probably be on his way to the national championship while averaging a double-double and the Jazz would have no chance of drafting him.

Yet, we are potentially risking his long term health because of WHY now? It wouldn't even take a plane crash, just some major turbulance and he could hurt a knee, elbow, or whatever. And then after the damage is done. The Jazz would evaluate and ask the question, "Why did we have our future riding coach?" And there will be no good explanation, other than - we didn't want to spring for Jet Blue.

I dont think him sitting in a cramped spot for a few hours is that big of a health risk.

So flying 12-14 guys on 50 flights (25 road games) is roughly 600-700 tickets... we can't add 100-150 per ticket to get the guys first class? $70k or so is too much? We sell second round picks every year... I like to think those funds help fund this team.

Actually a flight from SLC to Frisco, Tx is about 3-4 hours, and Hidalgo, Texas is about 5-7 hours, plus pre-boarding and de-planing. Flight to Mississauga, Ontario are about 4-5 hours.

It's non-sense. It's a small risk, but why take it? Also, why not have it so that the Stars are the best treated team in the G-League? Why not have the Stars set the standard of excellence? Why not have it so that anyone who is thinking about going G-League wants to give the Stars first look? Seems like it could benefit the Jazz in the long run.

While I completely agree with this, I also note that Bradley himself is making $1,414,920 this year. Why doesn't he just spring for the first class upgrades himself if it's really that big of an issue? If I made that kind of money and were his size, I'd certainly do that.

If it were me I'd probably pay for an upgrade myself for any really long flights. A lot of the G league guys maybe couldn't afford it but Bradley could.

edit: Colton beat me by a minute.

Back when the Stars were in Boise, it could be a real player morale issue when a guy came in making NBA money and buying an upgrade on anything from hotel rooms, to food to air fare.

What I was going to say.

I mean yeah it might be smart to do that (pay for his own upgrade) for him, but I'd also be pissed at the org when contract negotiations came along. I'm still not really understanding this Bradley pick. He's a project big at a position where he'll only ever be a backup. Such a low ceiling pick with a first rounder. I would have preferred rolling the dice on a guy who can play 4, or literally any other position.

You probably dont want to show up your teammates like that.
