Following Potential 2018 Draftees

Jazz could trade Jonas, Thabo, and Udoh to take back a bad deal. I could see Charlotte doing the wet bandit and their pick for our pick and those contracts. They can decline the option and save.

Or we could trade our pick this year and next.

Bridges doesn’t get past Philly though... via the Lakers.

Yeah, but they were able to move up because they had a recent lottery pick that Denver liked. They don't have that player to give up this time.
I outlined how we could move into the lotto earlier. This time last year most of us would not have thought lyles and our pick would get us to 13... we could get to a similar range by giving our pick this year and next or salary relief. Not anyone available in the 11-14 range I think I’d consider though. Maybe Miles Bridges is there.

Yeah, but that's different because we had a lottery pick who the Nuggets wanted. We don't have that this year. It's not going to happen. The Jazz dont have enough cap-space to throw around to absorb stuff unless they want to pay the LT, which I highly doubt they would do.

Lyles was and is a lot better of a prospect than a lot of Jazz fans give him credit for. He unfortunately wasn't afforded the luxury of developing behind much better options on a playoff roster last year.

I’m pretty sure this ginger snap on Villanova is the number one pick guys.

Your math is bad. We can take salary with the unguaranteed guys. Have to find a team that wants to move salary but I could see the Hornets being willing to do that.

Then you have to sign more players. My math is not bad. Also, there is a strong likelihood that it would be more money coming in than going out and that the Jazz might have to cut one of those players to fall below the LT anyway.

Moving up isn't easy to do. The team we're trading with needs to be luke warm on the players available to them at their original pick. They have to like a player expected to be available with the Jazz's pick (last year the Nuggets were targeting OG Anunoby), and they have to see someone on the Jazz they like enough to make the swap. The Jazz then need to agree to it. If the team has multiple first-round picks, and they feel like they have enough young players, they might move one of their picks. The Suns, Clippers and Hawks have multiple picks, but their later picks are in the teens and 20s.

I think the Jazz might be willing to offer their pick plus Tony Bradley, but that's not going to get them too far--maybe 5 spots or so. Plus, I think the Jazz really like Bradley. Whereas, they were pretty done with Lyles last year.

It's unlikely that the Jazz would offer Rubio or Crowder, or that either of those guys would get the Jazz high enough to make it worthwhile. I also think there's enough talent in this draft to justify staying at #20 and picking there.

Do you though? You add the wet bandit in a 2 for 1 or 3 for 1... add in the first round pick and sign a minimum player.

I don’t think Favs is back and I don’t think Dante gets more than 10 M a year.. does that put us in LT?

They arent going to trade for a guy who is owed 15 million dollars in 2019/2020...

Who is it you want to trade up for? Mikal Bridges?

(All it takes is for one team to offer Exum $12m - $14M. Brooklyn may have nothing better to do.)

Maybe maybe not... we have ample room to accommodate.

Making the moves I suggested leaves us at 104 M in salary with 11 spots taken care of... assuming Dante at 10 per year. They can fill out spots 11-15 with 17M.

It’s not a question of if they will but they certainly can.

Like the only thing that would be possible is the Nuggets by trading Faried for our 3 non-guaranteed guys.

That's the only remote possibility, but Denver probably trades with anyone else before us and there are probably other teams who can make that work.

But even then, that's going to make the LT a possibility. Jazz would be at 99 million dollars (roughly) for 8 players. Add 3 million in for the lotto pick to be at 102. Add w/e Dante gets paid, which if he keeps balling out, could be a poison offer. So after you pay Dante w/e, you still have to sign at least two more players at the minimum. 5 more if you want a full roster. LT will be around 120 million. It could get very hairy.

Top 10 guys: Doncic, Ayton, Bagley, Porter Jr., Jackson Jr., Bamba, Sexton, Mikal Bridges, Carter, Young

11 - 15 range: Miles Bridges, Walker, Gilgeous-Alexander, Knox, Williams...

So those guys are most likely off the board.

Jazz's range: Zhaire Smith, Porter, Musa, Robinson, Khyri Thomas, Bonga, Hunter, Trent, Frazier, ...

And the Hornets arent trading their lotto pick just to get off Marvin Williams.

They are at the LT and I suggested our pick for theirs and Marvin. Given the success of their picks I think they’d jump at it.

I don’t think we’d do it but was just laying out a feasible deal.

No one would have said the nuggets will take our pick and Lyles for 13... they had players and prospects at the position.

It can happen... probably won’t... but it could.

It's a huge question of if they can. You have no idea what offer Dante is going to get. The draft is before free agency.

They didnt have anyone at PF other than Faried. They signed Millsap after the trade. And they liked Lyles in the draft. I wouldn't have said it was going to happen, but I would have said "Hey we have this lottery pick, there are probably teams who liked him in the draft". We aint got that player now.

Some teams might like Rubio enough to have that conversation, but I doubt the Jazz would move him.

The Jazz arent in acquire bad contracts mode. They need all the cap flexibility they can get. They arent going to do a deal before free agency that limits their flexibility, especially not with a contract that extends into 2019/2020.
