More Mitchell Love

If he becomes a superstar he could transisition into being more ball dominant and having an offense made to get him more stats. Similar to when Harden went to Houston suddenly he was putting up huge assist numbers.

You’re right it may never happen. But if it doesn’t it’s not because he lacks the skills to be a high volume assist guy.

Exciting to wonder where he will be 5 years from now.
I agree. I won't be surprised if he averages 8+ assists at some point. You just asked for 1 good reason so I gave I gave you one ;)

I dont ever want DM to average more than 5 assists. I want him scoring! Scoring a lot!
I think there will be a point in the next few years he’ll jump giant scoring average to around 30 a game regardless. I also think the way he is set up to play now he’s averaging 3 assists. In the coming years it’s obvious by the way they run the offense through him to close 4th quarters they want him to play more point and trust him to do so. His assists will for sure go up to 6-7 a game in the next few seasons as well. Sky’s the limit for Donovan. I don’t ever think he’ll average more than around 3-5 rebounds but that’s plenty for a 6’2” guard that’s playing next to Rudy.

Countdown on Most 3 point makes by a Rookie: Post Timberwolves - 1/1/18

1.) Damian Lillard, Portland (12/13) - 185
2.) Donovan Mitchell, Utah (17/18) - 175
3.) Steph Curry, GSW (09/10) - 166

Donovan Mitchell (17/18) - with one more 3 pointer tonight brings his total to 175

Needs 11 more to take over 1st.

5 games left to go. He needs to average 2.2 per game to do that. He’s been averaging 2.6 per game (on 7.3 attempts) since the win streak began back in January. Looking more and more likely that he’ll get there, but it won’t be until the last game in Portland that he tops Lillard. Which would be fitting since he passed Curry in Oakland.

A big jump tonight. He's only a few away.

"I wonder if Simmons will ever tie Mitchell's record for missed 3's? That's a rookie record that might stand for quite some time. "

"You can argue for either as ROY. But to hurl insults or disparage either really shows one's ignorance."

Hmmmm. Jack com'on now, dont try to have it both ways.

You can't really expect to be taken seriously by throwing shade at Donovan, and then shaming us for returning fire.

This is, after all, a "Mitchell" love thread. Simmons trolls have tried to turn it into a coronation of Ben by throwing shade at our man DM. They (you? ) invite disparagment by the arrogance of their homerism.

I will admit BS is a great rookie, but it chafes my chaps that BS fans can't or won't return the sentiment. It begs the question, what are they (you?) so afraid of?

I'm not throwing shade at Donovan. He's been inefficient this season, especially behind the arc. That's a fact. And I'm certainly not a Simmons troll. I got sick of all the insults and name calling from BOTH sides. I'm first and foremost a Jazz fan. But I'm trying to be objective by pointing out strengths and weaknesses of both players. And I am in no way a Simmons homer. I'm not part of the Aussie contingent. I think I have given very good praise to DM in this thread and others.

By contrast, I think this is only my 2nd or 3rd saying it's my opinion Simmons should be ROY. Can't I be a Jazz fan and have a different opinion? Is it also wrong of me to say I don't think Quin should be COY?

Yes, they are different players. TO say Donovan can do everything Simmons can is absurd. Mitchell is NEVER going to average 17/8/8. Donovan will be a higher scorer, because that's his role and Utah doesn't have other shooters. Ingles is as close as the Jazz come, but he's low volume. Well, I guess Rubio of late has turned into a scorer in lieu of looking for assists. To do what Mitchell has IS amazing. But what Simmons is doing (nearly a triple double) is also simply amazing.

4 games left to go. He needs to average 1.75 per game to do that. He’s been averaging 2.6 per game (on 7.3 attempts) since the win streak began back in January.

There’s a decent chance that he breaks the record before the last game against Portland. Hopefully that means that he can just increase his lead over Lillard in that game.

The conversation for the 2018 Rookie of the Year is over. Ben Simmons is the winner. That’s it. Let’s not argue that. Anyone that does will have a Crown Burger thrown at them.

For the record, yes, I assume anyone that argues for someone else either lives in the greater Salt Lake City area, or they’re a national media talking head that votes for Donovan Mitchell.

Why are you so defensive ? Anybody who says there’s no conversation to be had is a gigantic ******

Donovan will be on First Take at some point this morning if you want to turn it on.

When I read ‘Mitchell is inefficient’ complaints I just am glad that he’s not having a regular rookie season.

Go look at other rookies who teams are (rightfully) super excited about and tell me how efficient they are. Or go back in time and check. Sorry to tell you but guards don’t come into the league shooting 50%. DSJ is at like 38% or something. And he’ll be a really good player.

I’m not sure how NBA fans are unfamiliar with these concepts but Mitchell is having an all time great rookie season, simple as that.

First Take segment for those that couldn’t tune in:

What a great attitude. I liked this part:

"...everyone's trying to avoid the two heavyweights Rockets / Warriors in the first round. Which team would you rather face...?"

"...for me personally I'm close to Chris Paul so I'd love to get in a playoff matchup with him and go head to head with him. That'd be pretty exciting for me."

He's not looking for the easy way out. Loves a challenge.

ESPN uploaded it to their channel......notice which small segment/question/answer they cut out. Maybe I'm being petty, but we really got to cut that 30 seconds out?

Didn't mean to offend. Just thought that pointing to DM"s number of missed threes was a little too salty to be calling others out for pointing to BS"s lack of three pointers.

I agree that there are reasons to love both players. If you want to be a Jazz fan and voice any opinion at all, I'm cool with that. As for me, I'll admit that I like BS. He's a great young player.

DM will probably never match BS"s triple double totals. But one thing that puts DM over the top for me is how fearless he is. If he has a weakness, he attacks it until he has an answer. At the beginning of the year he did a lot of euro step moves. Once defenders started to sag on him to take that away he developed a floater. He has been called on to take games over many times, and done it. The whole time he was adjusting on the fly to defenses keying on him and taking away his go to move. So he developed several! He doesn't have one signature move, he has seven! Give this kid one season to work on his game and watch what he becomes.

Time will tell who has the better career. However, I would not bet against a kid with that kid of drive and will to win. Philly has a great young player. But "Utah got a real gem in (DM).

And while they're at it they should look at Durant, Harden, Westbrook, etc.'s rookie season efficiency numbers...
