*Breaking News* Kawhi Wants Out

Colin Cowherd has a good point. No team would want to rent Kawhi for one year. It kind of forces San Antonio to trade him to the Lakers. Unless they let him walk for nothing or team wants to give up a lot for one year.
You mean like no team was willing to trade for Paul George even though the rumors have had him going to LA?

Obviously, any team would want a verbal commitment from Kawhi. Surprising that Leonard is turning down a super max deal. But I think he wants to play in a bigger market. He sure as hell isn't going to the Jazz. Boston tried to trade for him at the deadline. My guess is they'll offer Irving and a pick. Ainge is a stubborn SOB; he's going to offer as little as possible. Perhaps he'll add Brown if the Spurs push back.

Kawhi's camp is VERY smart in this.

By making it known that he only wants to go to the Lakers, no other team will be willing to give up major assets for him. It's like Kawhi is forcing the Spurs hand. If the Spurs don't trade him? He'll just wait out 1 more year and sign with the Lakers in Free Agency.

I see 2 scenarios:

Either the Spurs trade Kawhi to a team other than the Lakers and get less assets in return. Or trade Kawhi to the Lakers knowing they could form a super team later.

The ball's in the Spurs court now.

I wish San Antonio accepted #8 and Kevin Love for Kawhi. I dont want to see Kawhi at the Lakers or Celtics. And I would prefer that LeBron stay at Cleveland.

All it takes is one team to think they can convince him and that backfires. It's a gambit on their part and not a good one. Kawhi is still arguably a top 5 player in the league and there will be calls from ALOT of teams. If one package is better than what the Lakeshow offers, than it's done. Kawhi will have no choice in the matter.

Yeah but what team is gonna give up A LOT for him?

Let's say the Lakers are willing to give up Ingram and Kuzma and maybe the #25th pick this year's draft. What other team is willing to give up MORE than that package for the possibility of a 1 year rental for Kawhi?

Why would the Lakers give that up (Ingram, Kuzma and #25)? They wouldn't get rid of anybody for Paul George in the exact same scenario.

Cleveland might make the best offer with #8 and Love. If Kawhi goes to LA, LBJ might come anyway. Partner up in an easier conference. Kawhi is a low key guy anyway.

See OKC last year. All it takes is one, and Kawhi is arguably a better talent then PG. There will be one team out there that thinks they can use him and keep him long term.

Nobody wanted to rent Paul George for a year either... Until the thunder did.

Then let me ask you, if you were BOS would you be willing to give up Tatum? I don't think Brown's gonna get it done.

Agreed, but Hayward is probably more likely. Ainge is crazy enough to do it. Don't count the Sixers out as well. This is going to be nuts.

I'd rather go with Tatum and a pick if I was the Spurs. Why trade for Love when you already have Aldridge?

I don't think Hayward would do it, Spurs would want a young talent in return. Somebody they can keep on their team for 7+ years.
