Jazz select Grayson Allen at 21

This is basically how I feel right now...

Those questioning our approach to the draft have justification... those saying trust DL also have justification.

I would be okay with selling a second rounder if this was the only year we had done it... we have placed little or no value on the second round for 4 years and have primarily used it as a means to generate cash. Those saying it’s just the second round... who cares? We could have been buying picks or using those picks to find someone... any one pick doesn’t mean much but over 4 years you have a real shot at finding something of real value... it’s a wart on the current administration’s record imo... maybe it comes from ownership, but if the FO can’t find a guy they like enough to take a flier on they are being too picky... good prospects have been there and we’ve passed.

Good post. Who are the 2nd round picks that the jazz have actually taken in the last 5 years or so anyway? Im just curious to see how they are doing now. I have no point to make or anything. Simply curious.

Lindsey likes players who are ultra-competitive, who play really hard and who want to win. Grayson fits that description.

He wants to be here and wants to work too. Seems like a nice kid when he isn't going Cobra Kai on people.

Still love the pick.

If this kid gets blown by and dunked on by Wiggins in the second quarter of a wednesday game in week 13 it won't make a difference. But in a high stakes, grind it out play-off game I expect this kid to grab one or two extra possessions, take and hit key three pointers, force opponents to stay home so Mitchell has more open looks.

He may not be the perfect pick, but Jazz thought he was best available at 21 last night. Welcome aboard Mr. Allen.

The Jazz aren't trying to hit a home run here. They're trying to hit an infield single that drives in a run at the plate. Grayson Allen's job is going to be to make Donovan Mitchell's life easier -- do the little things, do the dirty work, play hard on defense, handle the ball, make a shot when it's there. That's it.

In regards to KBD, I think he’s out of the league by the end of his rookie contract. He’s super meh to me. Never understood the fascination.

Ok, first of all, stop with the straw man arguments. It doesn’t help your point of view. If Allen doesn’t play the 3 what does he play? The 2? Doesn’t donovon play the 2? Do we really want donovon playing the 1? Pretty sure I saw enough for that during the Houston series.

The rest of your garbage I’ll pass over. But it’s funny that you bash fans for having opinions about these players. I’ll be honest, fans aren’t always wrong and this management isn’t always right.

Fans were crazy over Kawhi. We drafted Burks.
Fans wanted booker. We drafted Lyles.

So it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that fans might be right about this pick. DL has certainly busted in the draft.

I respect your opinion a lot. I agree with you most of the time but no one knows if Allen is going to be good. Yes fans are right some of the time and wrong some of the time. Fans booed Stockton and Hayward and many were not happy with DW over CP3.

You ask what position he plays. He is a combo guard and he played PG in college. However, the Jazz offense is not set up for a dominant PG. Exum, Rubio, Allen and DM can play the PG. Heck the offense runs through Ingles sometimes. They all have weaknesses but they can dribble and run the offense. DM has stated he needs to improve his PG skills and with time I believe he can. I worry about Allen ability to guard more than his offense but I think he can contribute this year and is insurance if Exum leaves or Rubio leaves next year. Beside the Jazz need depth and scoring at PG/SG position.

If Im being objective. this is the worst selection in the 1st round... I'd give it no higher than a D-grade, and probably more like an F. Especially with all the talent on the board this is a reach..

Did you see Duke play defense this year ? lol They were a house of straw on the perimeter.

Just my 2 cents. Not gonna argue, just figure i'd let it be known.

Bunch of the players I've been saying are better than Grayson for years, Jerome Robinson, Josh Okogie and Kevin Huerter, all went infront of him...............................
so then you shouldn't be upset because all your choices went higher.

At the point we were picking, Brown, Huerter and Okogie were gone. If the Jazz wanted to secure one of those guys, they needed to trade up a few spots. They knew that going in. I'm sure they had a few opportunities on the table.

The Jazz know who Elie Okobo is. Okobo had a good workout with us and was reportedly the best shooter in that workout. Donovan Mitchell knows all about Simons, since they're friends and he helped recruit him to Louisville.

They went with Allen, and they seem to feel pretty good about it. One thing guys like Dellavedova, Manu and JJ Barea have in common--they all have rings.

People complaining about giving away 52 need to calm down. There are no spots for 52th pick. I wanted them to move up but you have to have a willing partner.

Did we confirm it was $500k? I think it might be more, but that was all they had left in the 2017 year to give.
I have no idea. If it’s even $3M, it’s still small compared to what we’d pay Favors. I know most think that’s a foolish idea, though, including the FO.

It concerns me only in that I don’t know how he’ll be if switching on to 3’s or 4’s even.
Switching on to 4's? How many pg/sg in the entire nba are good at guarding 4's? If thats what you want from him then your expectations are way way too high. He is not a lebron james type player that can guard every position on the floor. He can be expected to guard point guards, shooting guards, and the occasional small forward.

We traded the 35th pick in 2014 - for cash and future second rounder (which was very likely to be a late second rounder) Memphis took Jarnell Stokes
NBA players that were available - Spencer Dinwiddie, Jerami Grant, Glenn Robinson (i guess he is an nba player?), Jokics, Dwight Powell, Jordan Clarkson

In 2015 we took Olivier Hanlan - who was not good... not much available after that pick. Unclear if we thought he could play then he sucked in SL and went overseas or if we took him knowing we could send him overseas. This was a ****** draft for second round guys.

In 2016 we traded #42 for cash and #55 so we could draft Paige, who was always headed to the d league. We took Bolomboy with the #52 pick. Brogdon taken in the second round and so was McCaw... not sure if we could have gotten above Mil for Brogdnon but McCaw was had with cash. Another bad second round here.

In 2017 we traded 42 to move up to take Bradley... a guy I didn't want. Even still 35 and 45 could have been had with a future second rounder. Guys available at 35 - Bolden, Semi, Bell, Brooks, sterling Brown. We selected Nigel WG with the 55 knowing we could send him overseas... which is fine.

In 2018 we were the only team to straight sell a pick for just cash.

I'd just rather be on the other side of this equation... using cash to move up and get prospects and we are doing the opposite.

Not sure we take any of these guys... but you need to give yourself a chance.

Cobra Kai for sure. That’s awesome lmfao

Stifle Tower, Jingles, Spida, Slick Ricky and now Cobra Kai lmfao.

We need something for Crowder and O’Neale

its a cost effective gamble... you think Was says no to us taking #44 and using the tpe on Meeks... a few million off their books would really help. Would have netted KBD for basically nothing.
