2018 Annual JazzFanz LEGENDARY Players NBA Draft

For
Are you talking about guys in this draft or just in this kind of draft in other years?
Other drafts. The more GM’s we have the more varied the results become.

I agree with your position on Battier. There’s other guys who can fill a role that actually should be picked in this thing. Won’t complain, because it helps push my top guys down another spot.

Fair enough. Figured he was going to get enough hell for it. Didn’t want to pile on.

We’ve had other guys drafted in other ones that I didn’t think belonged. At this point, it’s really subjective as to how to round out a roster.

There’s a guy that I love that’s almost certainly going to go undrafted. I wanted to pick him, but couldn’t pass on Ben Wallace any longer.

You broke my heart with the Ben Wallace selection. Was going to take him.

I was originally looking to stack my bench with defenders. Almost pulled it off. My plan was to grab Mutumbo and Wallace - just for fun.

Ended up with Webber and Richmond to start with. Couldn’t pass on Ben Wallace again.

That would’ve been fun. Lol

I wanted to pair Malone and Morning with the Wallace’s, all four could play both the 4, and the 5.

That’s a great strategy too. After I took Olajuwon, I was trying to trade up for Karl Malone and stack my frontcourt. Never came close. I think if we had more GMs, there’d be more trades. My value board is almost always strong enough that I don’t need to make a trade to get a guy I want.

Lol. I would’ve been pissed. The moment I saw I was the last pick, I told myself I was getting the statues. Came soooooo close to getting Patrick Ewing. The last of the elite of the elite centers, but Zo brings a lot of heart effort and defense to my team.

What would happen if you could gather all these guys, and bring them into one league the lesser stars would turn into the Shane Battier’s of the world
Maybe I am wrong, but I think you are under appreciating the difference between a star and a supporter. I don't believe that everyone who is a star can learn the mindset and skills need to thrive in a supporting role. Look at Iverson when he was asked to change his role. Similarly, what happened when Westbrook tried to change his game?

Obviously there are players who make the transition, like Grant Hill after the injuries or late stage Kareem, but it seems like most fail (we can see it now with Melo and Howard). So if a player has shown the ability to excel in a certain role, I value that more than the uncertainty of someone else growing into it.

fact is he [Battier] can’t hang with the players being collected into these roster, I mean just look at my three bench guys of Grant Hill, Drazen Petrovic, and Penny Hardaway.
When he was asked to be 3 & D against Kobe and Durant in the playoffs he hung just fine. Remember, I thought my most pressing need was a wing defender that could spread the floor. I again ask: Who in NBA history was a better wing defender that shot at least .35% from 3 (on reasonable volume)?

From your bench, Hill was not the level of defender and even when he was in a supporting role he couldn't hit the 3 at the same rate. Maybe you could argue Penny had the potential defensively, but his 3 ball was not consistently a threat at 31% for the career (although a good uptick at the end). However, even Penny was smaller, slighter, and had less reliable health than Battier. As for Petrovic, he never showed either interest or ability to be a defensive stopper (although I like him and had him top 5 on my board when you took him).

voters will look at your bench and the bench of your opponent and vote your opponent because starters were even but his bench looks better. This is why he doesn’t belong.
I accept that this pick is unpopular, but I think it is more interesting/revealing if everyone makes a team based on their own opinion, otherwise it just reflects group think and creates an echo chamber.

The reality is that we will never actually know, and even if it were possible to make this happen, the impact of the 8th player is probably going to be minimal... unless that player is Battier ;)

Lol, whatever man. I think you are defending this pick because it benefits you to do so, but in all seriousness, you can’t believe this is true.

If I didn't believe it then why would I have made the pick? hmm... Nope, there is no other reason.
It turns out that I think differently about it than everyone else, usually that is a bad sign (see Cleveland and Anthony Bennett). Whatever, at least it is a different point of view than all the prior drafts!
