What's new

Dante Exum - point guard ?!?!

He was finishing last night. He also doesn't get calls that he should. He's getting stronger though and I think that will help him finish more often. I will say it here and now that if he doesn't get injured again, he will eventually be better than Ricky. We've invested a lot in him and he's still young so let's not give up now. Burks is four years older.

Who cares about Burks? He blows too.

as was stated before Exum dribbles to much. He gets to far into the shot clock before getting the offense going.
He's been doing a much better job of late getting into the offense quicker with the Exum/Korver/Ingles/Crowder/Favors unit. Still wish Donovan Mitchell could play stretches at PG to really give the Jazz an explosive lineup offensively, but Exum is doing a great job at getting that unit going and last night was the first night where they didn't consistently get great looks out of that lineup and it was in the 1st quarter where Crowder decided to chuck up a couple of bad shots.

It even looked like Exum was making more of an effort to find Korver including one play where Exum let the screen action happen and delivered it on point to Korver for a three. It's a simple play but it is one Exum wasn't making even just a few days ago in Portland.

What offense?
You don't think Exum dribbling until he penetrates and either dishes or attempts a shot at the rim is decent offense?

I agree. Exum’s stats are laughable.
The per 36 comparison between Rubio and Exum is closer than I think many people realise here (16/8/4 with 1.8stls/0.3blks/3.8 TOs vs 15/5/4 with 0.9blks/0.3stls/2.7 TOs) - worth noting that Exum is doing this primarily against backups while Rubio is against the starters. Exum is also beating out Rubio in a couple of advanced metrics like TS% (52.1% vs 51.3%), TO% (11.7% vs 14.5%) and WS/48 (.059 vs .057); the difference in the TS% and WS/48 stats is absolutely minimal, but considering that Exum's stats are apparently laughable it's worth noting.

The Per 100 possession comparison is fairly close too (21/10/6 with 2.3stls/0.4blks/5.1 TOs vs 21/7/5 with 1.2stls/0.4blks/3.6 TOs), but again worth noting that Exum competes against bench units while Rubio against starters.

Not trying to say that Exum is better or is even close to Rubio's production level, as Exum has only recently managed to get away from having a negative net rating (0.0 currently) while Rubio has the 3rd highest net rating on the team (3.4, behind Ingles at the top and Gobert 2nd), Rubio has a 0.4 VORP while Exum is a -0.2, Rubio has a higher AST/TO ratio, and Exum is still a negative for team on/off rating while Rubio's team impact shines even more here with a +5.4. But to say Exum's stats are laughable is kinda ironic unless you also think Rubio's stats are somewhat laughable too.

Not traditionally for a Quin Snyder coached team as it allows the opposing defense to set up, but I think Quin deserves a ton of credit for making the adjustment to simply let Exum run a PnR with Favors and three shooters as one of the primary options when Exum is on the court. It's only a few games but it seems like Exum has really responded well to the adjustment, and they mix it up nicely with the more traditional complex sets where Exum initiates then goes to the corner and Ingles becomes the primary play maker. That lineup offensively has been one of the funnest lineups to watch in the last few games, and I think it's helping Ingles out a ton too to just get a bit of a rhythm back with more touches with that bench unit.

His ceiling and comparison is Shaun Livingston which isn’t bad. If SL didn’t have the devastating knee injury, he would have been an All Star. Post injury he has turned into one of the top 2 role players on an all time team. He is consistent back up and a change of pace guy, playing PG, SG and even SF. Dante can be a more athletic SL. Beyond shooting, Dante should work on his post up game against smaller PGs, which has what redefined SL’s game.

I am really liking Dante's fit with this second line that has a great pick and roll chemistry between Dante and DFav, and great shooters with Ingles, Crowder, Korver. Dante is getting a good feel for this lineup and I think he is going to really develop the PG control, with smart players in Joe/Jae to assist him.

In Utah’s last 12 games, Exum is averaging 20 points and six dimes per 36 minutes on 52 percent overall and 42 percent from 3-point range. During that span, he’s posted a better net rating than both Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell; the Jazz have outscored opponents by 8.4 points per 100 possessions when Exum’s been on the floor.

And he continues to be solid defensively. For the year, opponents are now hitting under 42 percent of their shots when Exum is the closest defender, or 2.6 percent below their norm.

I like you, Serbio, but your player evaluations leave a ****-load to be desired. Probably a good time to stop, before you get exposed with all the Exum-hating clowns who don't know their *** from a hole in the ground.

Look at my ***!
