2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

Conley/Exum
DM/Korver
Ingles/Oneal
Mirotic/Niang
Gobert/Udoh/Bradley

O'Neal and Ingles can play minutes at PF and if you really want depth go give Trevor Booker a call. That lineup gives incredible space for DM to operate. Also, you know Favs is leaving right? Getting something for him and Rubio is important.

NOs will be tanking this year so why do they care how thin they are? How thin will they be when they get 5 Lakers for AD?? Crowder is solid on a good contract and fits.

Mem wants picks too rebuild. They can flip those expirings for more picks if they wanted. Randle would have some value to a contender.
I don't think the addition of Mirotic outweighs losing Favs/Crowder/Thabo at the PF rotation personally. The idea is you want to pair another floor spacing PF with Crowder not trade him for someone who isn't demonstratively better than him. I think you're vastly underrating Crowder's impact too if you think "give Trevor Booker a call" is a reasonable alternative.

NOLA doesn't want to tank otherwise they'd make Jrue available and really reap in assets, they're one of the worst seeds in the West but without checking the standings there are at least 4 East teams worse than them + the Suns. Crowder doesn't make sense for a tanking team either so either way your idea doesn't make sense for them.

Like I said in the post after you could consider it a win for them but I think a late 1st and a 2nd + cap room isn't really a win. If they were to flip the assets they'd need to do it in the trade most likely.

Now I'm feeling like no trade gets done. The fact that the details of the trade proposal got leaked tells me Memphis leaked it to try and pressure Utah (making it awkward with Rubio).

I don't think Utah increases their offer outside of adding a 2nd round pick.

If Detroit is in it, I could see them giving up a first and Kennard. They are the much more desperate team. They don't have the expirings Utah has, so maybe that gives Utah the edge, but I bet Detroit is willing to put more future assets on the table.

Maybe Utah pivots to focusing on Mirotic.

Anyone else getting a feeling that the trade rumors might be a bait and switch. Like other teams see what the Jazz are possibly offering and putting one of their guys on the table now instead. For some reason I still think Beal makes a ton of sense.

Washington isn't likely putting Beal on the table. They may be willing to talk about Porter more than they're letting on.

If you're Memphis, do you really take Reggie Jackson though? He's got another year after this at $17M.

I think the time is to do it now.

If you are confident in your talent evaluation then you act before someone does it before you.

The talent is there. The biggest question mark is the health of his knee imo. So thats why you do it now. You test him out, while he is "cheap" asset wise, and see if he is worth the gamble of ever thinking about giving him any kind of lengthy contract. Getting him now is the least risky of all the ideas.

The more time you have to evaluate his fit and health the better. Waiting for the waivers is a risk too. You might never the chance to see.

Well, if he's cheap maybe take a flier... We're playing Niang afterall.

Based off that Lowe article, seems clear that of Rubio, Exum and Favors, Exum is the guy we would rather keep.

I like Conley, but I just can't get over Jrue. The guy is simply our best target. The fact that we are linked to Mirotic makes me even more interested in expanding the deal to include Jrue. I think we could have Conley right now but we are waiting for Jrue to come available.

If NOLA does take the LA trade, this deal just makes too much sense:

Favors, Rubio, Grayson, 2019 1st, 2021 1st and a future 2nd
for
Jrue and Mirotic

This trade completely clears the books for NOLA allowing them to rebuild. If they trade AD, Jrue should also be dealt. They could flip Favors for another pick.

Memphis receives Jazz 2019 1st and NOs 2019 2nd.

Why trade Jae Crowder? His contract is a bargain and he's in several of our best lineups statistically.

I feel like replacing the Favors/Crowder duo at PF with a Mirotic/Niang duo is a big step back.

We lose a lot of defense in this trade too. Losing Thabo hurts, especially after losing Favors and Crowder too.

I don't think that Conley is enough of an upgrade over Rubio to offset the fact that we would be worse at PF and lose some defense.

This is giving up too much imo.

A better first than Utah has and Kennard, yeah.

If they get Conley they could easily sneak in the playoffs... they might have to eat more than just Jackson’s terrible deal... might have to take leuer too. Salaries would also have to match damn near perfectly cuz both teams are inches from the tax.

If they want to eat bad salary they can pick up an extra first from Houston or a handful of other teams... just because they aren’t a FA player doesn’t mean that extra 20-30M in salary is meaningless... they will also likely try to operate at the salary floor next year. If they like Kennard then they should do the Detroit deal but otherwise it’s kinda crappy to move up 6-10 spots... doubt they’d get it unprotected. With Blake and Conley that is a playoff team imo. 15th pick versus 23-25 worth 30M.

Like Lowe said our deal is their floor. They likely shop the pieces we offered for other deals with bad salary and first or less productive expiring salary and seconds.

I don’t think we offer more. That’s the right approach. If we find a better use for the trade assets in the meantime they lose their floor offer.
