After hearing Kanter's reaction to being drafted by the Jazz and hearing Jazz management's comments on getting Kanter I'm starting to think this was one of the better "snowball jobs" by an NBA team on who they were really interested in.
1. From the get go, it was rumored that the Jazz wanted a PG. As such for a number of weeks Knight was projected as the 3rd pick.
2. Kanter cancels his visit to Salt Lake and makes the Jazz travel to Chicago to "try him out".
3. Jazz brass put it out there that 4 years of college experience is very important to them.
4. Even as early as this morning it was rumored that the Jazz were trying to trade up to the 2nd pick to get Williams.
5. The Jazz invite the media to Jimmer's try out thereby increasing the speculation that he is their man, even having some homer tweet how badly Jimmer chewed up Walker. Media is never invited to try outs. At least not of this magnitude.
In addition we find out that Jazz brass visited Kentucky several times in late '10 to scout Kanter and interview him. They've been "trying him out" for months, not just weeks like everyone else.
Also, we find out that Kanter has family here in Utah?? In addition Okur is here who he considers a mentor.
Yes, I think Kanter was the Jazz pick all along but they were able to fool everyone into thinking he wasn't that high on their list. The Jazz got exactly who they wanted.
