One Of The Better Snowball Jobs In NBA Draft History?

After hearing Kanter's reaction to being drafted by the Jazz and hearing Jazz management's comments on getting Kanter I'm starting to think this was one of the better "snowball jobs" by an NBA team on who they were really interested in.

1. From the get go, it was rumored that the Jazz wanted a PG. As such for a number of weeks Knight was projected as the 3rd pick.

2. Kanter cancels his visit to Salt Lake and makes the Jazz travel to Chicago to "try him out".

3. Jazz brass put it out there that 4 years of college experience is very important to them.

4. Even as early as this morning it was rumored that the Jazz were trying to trade up to the 2nd pick to get Williams.

5. The Jazz invite the media to Jimmer's try out thereby increasing the speculation that he is their man, even having some homer tweet how badly Jimmer chewed up Walker. Media is never invited to try outs. At least not of this magnitude.

In addition we find out that Jazz brass visited Kentucky several times in late '10 to scout Kanter and interview him. They've been "trying him out" for months, not just weeks like everyone else.

Also, we find out that Kanter has family here in Utah?? In addition Okur is here who he considers a mentor.

Yes, I think Kanter was the Jazz pick all along but they were able to fool everyone into thinking he wasn't that high on their list. The Jazz got exactly who they wanted.

The Jazz didn't do anything. They practically said no comment to anything. All the rumors were media driven.

I agree with you. Defenitly seems this was orchestrated. I believe in koc, so i trust kanter and favors will be an amazing duo for years to come.

You're right, they didn't actively do everything above, but they did one thing...they kept their mouths shut and just let the rumors and speculation wander. There's a skill that other teams could use. I know it's frustrating for fans, but some teams pretty much broadcast what they are considering and lose leverage in the process.

The second I felt like I absolutely knew that Utah was picking Kanter was right after his workout in Chicago. Utah was DEATHLY silent after that workout. In fact, I think I even remember Kanter's agent being questioned about how the workout went and he said something along the lines of out of respect for the Jazz he wasn't going to go into details of the workout.

It seemed like a certain tell-tale sign that both parties were being so quiet about things.

There's nothing quite like a good snowball job.
