What's new

What's your future Jazz rotation look like?

Harris (32)-Watson (16)- Price (0)
Hayward (33) - Burks (15)
CJ (33)- Millsap (15)
Millsap (15) - Favors (25) - Okur (8)
Jefferson (34) - Kanter (14)

The above doesn't factor in injuries, so per game averages will be higher. Initially I'd expect Kanter and Burks to get around 15 mins/per. I think CJ will be signed just to hold down the spot until a trade is made. Having his expiring and that of Okur's gives the Jazz some flexibility in terms of high/low salaries in a trade. Harris and Millsap are potential trading chips; Harris because of his age and playing style and Millsap because of the logjam at the 4/5 (if Kanter is the real deal).

Yes, I know everyone hates Price, but we need an emergency PG for one more year. When Harris misses 10 games - and he will - Price can at least fill in for 10 mins. behind Watson. No way do the Jazz insert Burks at 3rd-string PG right away. Too much to learn. He needs to concentrate on his natural position in Year 1.

Favors should be playing more than 25 minutes a game..

He should, but he may not. He had foul trouble last season. And there will be injuries. These are averages assuming everyone is healthy. So when Okur misses a few games, Favors plays 30+. If Jefferson strains a hammy, everyone's averages go up. I think the soonest we'd see a trade is at mid-season. Kanter is a complete unknown; Favors is still a question mark. If/when those guys show they should each play 30 mins/per, then you look at trading Millsap or Jefferson.

After giving this some thought, my starting 5 would be:
PG - Harris
SG - Hayward
SF - Millsap
PF - Favors
C - Jefferson

I know a lot of people have concerns about Millsap guarding the SF's. But he's got the entire offseason to prepare for it and I think he'll be fine. I definitely wouldn't trade him because he's one of the better leaders on the the team.

For the primary lineup off the bench would be...
PG Watson
SG Burks
SF Miles
PF Kanter
C Memo

This should be a real strength of the team. Of course it assumes Memo is healthy enough to play about 16 minutes a game. I like the idea of Memo and Kanter playing together off the bench, especially since I think Kanter will really like playing with his fellow countryman. Plus the fact that Kanter could post up while Memo supply some 3 point shooting to help stretch the defenses. As for Kanter on defense... while Kanter would probably struggle guarding most starting power forwards, I think he could stay with most 2nd string PF's (as most of those are not primary scoring threats). I also like idea of the combo of Burks and Miles off the bench at the wings.

As far as Raja Bell is concerned, I'd keep him too for his leadership abilities (I don't think we'd be able to trade him anyway). He should be a great mentor for Burks.

As for Evans... he should help provide depth as well, and hopefully will continue to work on his game. I still like his potential as a SF if he can improve his range and ball handling skills.

This leaves you with 3 spots left. (Isn't 13 the league min?) So that's one for Bell who's under contract. then 2 more. I would keep AK provided his locker room presense is good and he'd accept a diminished role - and the open spot is for SF/Wing. Then there is J Evans also a possible wing, but doubtful. So that leaves Fes and Price on the outside looking in.

That's laughable

and he has sloan as his avatar

i think would be laughable if sloan was headcoach, but now im pretty sure he will get more than 20 for the major part of the season. Corbine is pretty flexible with rookies

Pg- Harris (25) i hope will be traded though
Sg- Hayward (30)
Sf- Ak (25) if still on roster
Pf- C .. Millsap, Favors, Kanter will share equally (more kanter and millsap at the end of the game)
Hopefully big al will be traded

i dont think we will have an impact bench player except one of the three above.
I hope burks will work day&night and improve his weaknesses and take at least 15 min per game.

I actually like Price as a 12th man who gets no minutes. Every team needs one of those, and he does the job nicely. I liked Dee Brown for that role too.

I think 14 is the minimum. Or at least allowable. I hope the Jazz keep Evans around. I like his potential.

(ok, so 13 is the minimum but 14 is allowable)

Anyways, I think Fes and Elson will be gone and they will be replaced with Kanter and Burks. I think the Jazz would be wise to add an extra roster spot for Evans, unless he just totally sucks it up in training camp (if there is one).

I'm ready to move on from the AK era... if we re-sign him... I hope its only for a one year contract... I certainly wouldn't sing him for anything longer than that. I do like Evans as a developmental player. He works hard and has some potential if he can improve his perimeter skills. This year will be pretty important for him though to show some continued improvement.

Harris/Free Agent/Burks
Hayward/Burks
CJ/Millsap/Free Agent/Evans?
Favors/Millsap/Kanter/Evans
Jefferson/Kanter/Fes

I'm praying to god Memo, Bell, Watson and Price are all completely off the team or suffering season ending injuries. Each minute they take from someone else is a wasted one. Unfortunately Ty the basket case will rely too much on them because it always looks better to lose with veterans then to lose with youngsters. Because a Raja Bell or Earl Watson turnover doesn't hurt as bad as a Hayward or Favors turnover.

Ty's going to be on a really short leash with me as far as rotations are concerned.

I'm assuming AK walks in all of this, so I'm hoping we can bring someone in on the wing and to back up Devin if Burks isn't ready to handle that role yet. I don't know enough about Burks, so I'm reserving judgement. My ideal backup PG is Luke Ridnour or Luther Head. Would definitely love Head.

Do you negative rep just because someone states their opinion? If Jefferson is traded then Kanter would definitely play 26 minutes...use you're brain and read. Favors played 20 minutes this season..

Actually, 15 is the maximum, but the Jazz prefer to leave one spot open in case of 2-for-1 trades. Fes, Elson. AK, Watson and Price are all UFA's and CJ has a team option which has not yet been exercised. If I were a betting man, I'd say CJ's option will be picked up and the Jazz will make an offer to Watson. AK is unknown, but Greg has questioned his durabilty and effort so I'd say no. Jazz need a 3rd PG, so maybe Price gets 1 more year.

Jefferson-Kanter-Okur
Favors-Millsap-Evans
CJ
Hayward-Burks-Bell
Harris-(Watson)

Add another SF and a PG and that makes 14.
