What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

No they are saying something about Quin and Harris having good relationship and respect for eachother or something of that sort. They didn't say anything about a blender company...

There has been enough smoke from reputable sources to think it is more than just ancillary interest. I think we have worked some back channels. DM is also the type that would recruit. Tony Jones consistently saying we have a realistic shot is something to pay attention to... he does not like speculating much and is not a homer at all. He seems well connected and respected too... has broken a lot of news for a local guy... when he says stuff I listen.

****, you're right. For some reason I thought Phoenix and Chicago had max space.

Maybe you're right about him being had for under the max.

If we weren't worried about the Nets then I think there is a chance we are somewhat bidding against ourselves a bit... would maybe get him in the 20-22 range? IDK? I would feel a lot better with him on $22M per year than I would with him at $27M+ per year.

The Pacers could free up space easily and get him. I'm sure there is another team or two as well, maybe more depending on what happens with the other big stars.

Yeah, the Pacers are a candidate for him too. I listen to a bit of Indiana sports radio/podcasts and he's one that they bring up regularly as an option in the summer.

If it was Utah and Indiana bidding I'm not sure either team offer full 4 year max though. If he is restricted I think the only way to steal him is 4 year max... and they may just match anyway.

I will say this... if Russell becomes unrestricted I do not think he will get the full 4 year max... completely gut feeling.

I am listening to the Salt City Hoops podcast and Andy Larsen is saying there is REAL chance the Jazz are in play for Tobias Harris. He underlined it several times that there is interest both ways.
All I know is that this image has been burned in my brain and dreams since this happened. We getting Harris Bitches!!!!

Here is the best possible scenario... We sign Tobias Harris... to do so we have to waive both Favs and Neto (plus FA capholds).

We then trade our 2020 first round pick, Dante Exum, Jae Crowder, tony Bradley and Kyle Korver (once he is guaranteed) for Mike Conley.

Conley
DM
Ingles
Tobias
Rudy

Bench
Royce
Niang
Grayson
2019 pick

We can add someone through the room exception and hand out some decent flier one year minimum make good deals. You might play Ingles more with bench units to get playmaking.

Lets go wild.... Losing Rubio will hurt and we will need another wing or PG to start next to Mitchell. Lets say by draft day the Jazz have 'strong indication' from Harris that he's willing to come to Utah... Do we go on the offensive with either Jrue(if they trade AD and try to trade Jrue too) or Conley?

We should do a wink-wink deal with NOP or MEM for their PG and pick for them in the draft but postpone the deal for after Harris can officially sign.

So the mechanism will be as follows:

1. Get 'strong indication' from Harris
2. Arrange a wink-wink deal with NOP/MEM and ask MEM/NOP who they want in the draft and draft that player.
3. Renounce Rubio on July 1st. Trade Crowder for something... anything and capspace... 2nd round pick lets say.
4. Sign Harris
5. Either:
-trade Favors + Exum + 1st (+ 1st) for Conley/Jrue or...
-waive Favors and go after a guard/wing in FA with the remaining capspace(Brogdon? Lamb? Ross?).

Roster after transactions:
Option 1(trading for Jrue or Conley)

PG: Conley/Jrue, Neto, NWG
SG: Mitchell, Grayson, Korver
SF: Ingles, Royce, Korver
PF: Harris, 2nd roung pick/min vet/MLE, Niang
C: Gobert, Bradley, 2nd roung pick/min vet/MLE

Option 2(going after FA instead of giving up picks for Conley/Jrue):
PG: Mitchell, Exum, Neto
SG: Brogdon/Lamb/Ross, Grayson, Korver
SF: Ingles, Royce, Korver
PF: Harris, 1st round pick/min vet/MLE, Niang
C: Gobert, Bradley, 1st round pick/min vet/MLE

Which one do you prefer?

(Disclaimer: I haven't looked at the numbers exactly, so I am not sure how much money we will be left with if we waive Favors in Option 2)

Not enough money for option 2... would have like 5-6M after maxing Harris. Need to waive and stretch Korver, waive Neto and you are maybe $13mish in cap... which won't be enough for Brogdon... Lamb (it's in his ballpark), Ross probably gets him.

I prefer option one, but our assets don't get Jrue… they just don't. Conley is definitely within the grasp of that trade package.

I think if you had Harris (big IF) then a package of Exum, 1st, Korver, Bradley and then Route Jae to a third team for another expiring plus a good second round pick (I highly doubt you could get a first).

Is Memphis going to get more than a first, expirings (mostly), Bradley and Exum are young but I'm not sure they hit the young prospect box, plus a solid second and some cap relief this year (6-7M less)? I think that is a pretty solid offer.

That would be absolutely bananas good. ****. A+++

If not dealing Exum was a cipher for “we want to retain max cap space and then throw him in a package later” then Lindsey’s alright with me.
