Florida's debated welfare drug-screen measure kicks in

You apply to a job, they hire you. They drug test you when you start the job before they give you their money.
You want welfare, the state drug tests you before they give you their (our) money.

So, where is the problem?
I've never once in my life took a job that drug tested, and I've been gainfully employed since I was 16.

Wonder if they're testing for alcohol. I doubt it. Guess the state doesn't mind if you're on one drug and on welfare.

Same here. But then again, I've had 2 jobs in that time frame (one of which is working for my father).

I have yet to work at a job that doesn't drug test.

But I am not in the porn industry like you guys. ;)

Well, the government takes money out of your paychecks every month specifically to help those people, and you continue to stay here and pay those taxes

Therefore giving us the right to raise hell and say that I dont want my money going to junkies, drug test them if they want some govt cheese.

You're subscribing to that contract every second you work in the US.

So not leaving the country = agreeing with every single thing the government does. Gotcha.

Well, since you choose to live in the US and pay taxes you are claiming responsibility for the children of crack heads. We're all looking out for each other, that's how our leaders designed the country.

"The Leaders" You do understand the way this country was designed was to be run not by aristocrats and royalty, but by those who are governed, right?

From what I've seen I am pretty sure they aren't testing for drugs in the porn industry. Isn't becoming a coke addict a part of every little girls dream after becoming a porn star?

Exactly my point. They said they have never been drug tested at a job. I have never had a job where we weren't drug tested (at least since the late 80's).

Tell that too "His High Mightiness, the President of the United States and Protector of their Liberties" George Washington.

Yeah, that doesn't sound like he thought of himself as a leader.

As for johnstockalypse, I may not agree with painting my house red, but if I continue to do it, you can't exactly say I'm not a contributor to it. That is what you are doing by paying into the welfare system.

Your logic is truly stunning...

"The Leader of the Free World?"

Still don't get it?

The US is a welfare state, by living here you feed into that welfare state and support these people, I'm not sure what you guys are arguing.

Where should I live that wouldn't be a welfare state? A place that at least ideologically supports the concept of individual freedom more? A place that allows an individual to accomplish as much as a person who is capable can accomplish in the U.S.? So where should I go if I don't agree with everything this nation does? What box do I check to opt out of supporting these policies with my tax dollars?

So as long as I don't plan on leaving and I continue to pay my taxes do you mind if I at least say what I don't like about what goes on here? Do you think our leaders would mind?

Speaking from the perspective of having lived in a country for two years with no taxes (and thus no welfare system), I would much prefer to live in a country with a welfare system than one without. Those other places are called "third world" for a reason.

"Those who fail the required drug testing may designate another individual to receive the benefits on behalf of their children."

So what exactly is Florida accomplishing with this bill? I'm on the legalization side in general, but this seems like a transparent effort to identify drug users which I oppose. Drug testing for jobs is not the same as this. If you fail a job drug test, that information doesn't get reported to the government. Secondly, you don't have to take that test. You can just find a job that doesn't drug test. This is misguided social policy however well meaning, and I don't think it's well meaning at all.
