What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

Isn't that the same thing people asked about KD and Curry and Klay?

We desperately need another guy who can go get a basket. Whether it's Kemba or Tobias or Russell, we need another guy to go get buckets. Donovan is an unselfish player. He wants to share more. I'm sure he'd be much happier passing to Russell than Rubio.
Wrong.

Uhhh cool... he’s barely higher on some of those things... but TS percentage which is a more accurate reading of how efficient a guy is he is quite a bit worse. He also commits twice as many turnovers and plays in the JV conference.

Defense is literally half the game and he’s bad there... Conley is above average even though he’s older and smaller.

Finally Russell was *** in the playoffs... so was DM... it happens but he was absolute ***.

Naysayers are completely justified... believers can make their arguments too but laying it out like a no brained is dumb... it ain’t black and white.

It is black and white. Conley is barely better. I'm acknowledging that.

BUT HE ISN'T WORTH MORE THAN RUSSELL PLUS AT LEAST 1 FIRST ROUNDER AND $5 MILLION

How can you even argue otherwise? There isn't a GM in the history of the NBA who takes 32 year old Conley over 23 year old D'Angelo Russell, at least 1 first round pick and $5 million more in salary.

We don't need another to help our offense? Lol
Not if it's Russell. Cause what will happen is Russell and Donovan will shoot 90% of the time. And the rest of the team will be standing around. Look anyone can shoot 100 times and miss. U honestly think they'll be efficient? Um no they ain't curry KD or Thompson. The problem is the amount of shots and bad shots they take and miss by the way. The problem is they both think they're top 10 players that can shoot when they want

the money age and pick sure you can argue that But Conley is SIGNIFICANTLY better than D-Lo His true shooting which reflects how much he gets to the line is way better, he's a monumentally better defender and he's had a crapload of playoff experience. In a vaccuum Conley is significantly better and it's not close

I’d rather have mike on his deal than D’Lo on a 4 year 100M deal. It isn’t a no brainer... his contract could become an albatross. Conley is so much better right now... Russell is young but ain’t like he’s some super athlete. He might be damn close to his ceiling.

Also the original argument is if I could get a do-over I would... because it is likely that Russell doesn’t become available.

So both of these players are suddenly going to shoot 3X more per game than they did the previous season because they play together? Oof, I am impressed with how much worse your takes can get.

We aren't talking do overs. We are talking the parameters of either deal this summer.

Conley costs $32.5 and $34.5 million the next two years. To get him, it will cost at least 1 1st round pick.

Worst case scenario, Russell costs $27 million next year and a couple more million each year the few years after that. Still $5 millionish less than Conley the next two years.

It's an easy call. Forget age. Forget Donovan and D'Angelo being buddies. Forget Conley's camp saying he doesn't want Utah. The $5 million more to spend and keeping all our picks does make it a no brainer.

I would like to see the jazz combine Exum and our first to move up in the draft. It would open up another 9 mil so we could sign DLo or another free agent to 25-27 and keep favors who could turn out to be a valuable piece come trade deadline time.

I’ve maintained that we’re pretty ****ed for this summer. But the great thing is that it would have to potential for a floor that would make it a hard summer to **** up. Pretty easily, you could walk away with Jabari and Caruso, and I think you’ve got a lot more offensive firepower to compete hard in the second round. But I don’t see that as a reasonable scenario because if we strike out on any bigger moves, I see a breath of relief coming from the FO of “oh **** yes, we get to keep Favors!” I mean, get Jabari, Beverley/Caruso (both?), and Dedmon and I think you’re winning mid-50s games. Keep Favors and we’re a borderline 50-win team but OMG the PER!

With any luck, we could package Exum and our pick and move down. With any luck.

We’ll regret (near?) maxing Harris sooner rather than later.
The good thing about a max is that they’re only four years. You typically get at least 1.5-2 years in before the regret, and then you’ve got at least a year of convincing yourself that they’ll have value as an expiring contract. It’s not like the 7-year max AK deals.

I hate being a pessimist. One of my worst traits. But I just dont think we have a chance in signing anyone big for the simple fact that we are in Utah. There is a big stigma in this state. And what happened to Westbrook here this year is the icing on the cake. Sucks to realize and admit, but we have to build from the draft and or trades it's the only way we become a contender imho

The contrarian speaks.
I agree with him, basically the view if Dante is if he can actually stand up without hurting himself it’s a plus. Buy low, I think he may surprise next year and be average to almost good. Which would exceed the expectations of must here. Bring out your ded.

I don’t think the Westbrook incident will have any impact on free agency. Would provide some amount of cover for DL putting all our eggs in this basket, though.

Correct me if I'm wrong. But for the jazz to make an offer to say d-lo they have to renounce Favors to clear space to make the offer correct? And say the nets match. Then we lose out on d-lo and lose Favors? Is that right?

You could sign Favors with cap space, which you could argue that he’d rebuff the offer after being shown he’s not a priority, but then you could also say that no other team is offering Favors their cap space.
