What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

I’m sorry you’re wrong. We’ve all been there.

Jazz are the favorites or have a legit chance to win against 25 other teams in this league in a series. Raptors, Rockets, Warriors, Bucks and maybe Sixers?

I’d call that right below elite. Or has all this talk about adding that one final big name just for show?

And if I was better looking, rich and had a bigger Dick, blah blah blah. We weren’t good enough last year, we need to make changes.

Read the rest of the exchange before trying to argue a point no one is arguing.

Yes, we need to improve. Being good isn’t enough. They should not run this same team back. We need to land Harris, Russel, trade for Conley...something big.

One final big name? Lmfao. Yeah, Tobias Harris is the final piece. Just stop.

If we sign Tobi, it’s still going to take something else. Doesn’t mean another max player, but probably a breakout from Allen, O’Neale taking another step, etc.

Good news is that the WC finally looks like something where anything is possible.

It’ll still take luck and growth from players. Sure. That’s the same for everyone. There’s no guarantees.

My major off season predictions.

Durant leaves GSW and he and Irving sign with the Nets.

Leonard stays in Toronto.

Russel, after being released by the Nets, signs with Indy.

Thompson stays with the Warriors

Butler signs with Philly.

Harris signs with Utah.

After the Lakers strike out they trade for AD.

The race for the crown next season has a dozen viable contenders of which the Jazz are one.

We beat 25/26 of the teams in the NBA in a 7 game series with the core we've had the last two years.

We just need the final piece/pieces to help us beat teams like the Warriors, Rockets, Bucks, Raptors.

We would beat teams like the Nuggets, Celtics, Blazers, Thunder, probably even 76ers.

You are correct here.

No it won't. If Tobias comes the Jazz are a 55 win team.

And let's be perfectly clear, the only thing that makes the Jazz a contender is KD leaving. Hell if KD leaves and the Jazz stay exactly the same but just get reasonable 3rd improvement from Mitchell, they are probably still a contender.

The only thing I would say really needs to happen that isn't a guarantee (like Mitchell being better is a guarantee imo) is Exum staying relatively healthy and Allen being playable.

Agreed on KD. And I think he does.

I suspect the front office is getting ready with Plans B through Z for July 1
Lol. What’s plan Z? 5th graders from Europe? No GM has a plan Z.
Losing in the first round is not top of the West

To be fair we’ve gotten out of the first more than we haven’t.
Spare me as if we were so ****ing good.

We likely would’ve lost to the Blazers and Nuggets as well imo.
We were good enough to beat both those teams.

Lol. Don’t get bent out of shape, all he’s arguing is that we are good enough to beat any west team outside the W’s and Rox.

I did read it all anc my powers of comprehension are fine.

Not bent out of shape, and I get the points made. I just don’t agree we were that good to have beaten anyone but Ws and Rockets as s given. I just want the front office to not be so conservative. I prefer a swing and a miss to no swing at all. It’s much more interesting.

I loved our team the last couple years, but Portland, Denver, Philly, Toronto, GS, Houston, Milwaukee, and maybe OKC and Boston would have been favored over us this playoffs. We might have beaten one of them in 7, but I doubt it.

Our offense is just laughable. We lack options and shooting. What sucks is we didn't add Conley when we could have added him to Favors and all the other key guys. Now, if we could even add him or Love, it's at the expense of picks, Rubio AND Favors.

Outside of a max guy, we are moves away from contention. We really, really need Tobias OR Russell while drafting really well.

I fully agree

I just don't know how the Jazz even get Love. He shouldn't be a priority. Only way I see to get him is to trade Favors. Jazz could re-sign Rubio then trade Favors and Exum for Love. Don't see any other scenario where Love makes sense and you can get him.

Maybe the Jazz sign some role players and deal them at the deadline for Love.
Exum + Favors for Love has been the one that I’ve been saying is most realistic (plus a pick — many will say we should be getting the pick, but that’s just the reality from where I see it). This allows us more flexibility because we just operate over the cap, retain the MLE, and it is at least one scenario where retaining Rubio is in play.

Love has a terrible contract that could kill us, but there are a lot of serious positives that I think people would be neglecting. We’re really wanting a creator and we’re not seeing that in Love. We’re also wanting a dynamic defender. However, assuming any reasonable health, there are a few key things. The first is the obvious that he’s a guy who can space the floor from that position. The second is that despite not really being a creator, he’s going to occupy a huge vacuum in our offense and I believe easily scores 20+. It’s hard to know what his baseline offensive output is currently because of the years of being third option followed by last year of being in and out of the lineup (mostly out) and being on an absolutely ****** team. So, he’s not the 24 ppg Minnesota Love, but he’s not the 17 ppg Cleveland Love, either. While injuries are a large variable, he’s 30 and the next 3 years is our prime window and, honestly, he fits that time line. The biggest benefit, however, is that he can both space from the outside as well as rebound. When we have Favors on the floor with Gobert, the spacing is a problem. When we have someone else on the floor who can space better, we don’t have very good rebounding. Favors wasn’t closing games. How many close games did we lose because we could t secure easy defensive rebounds? When Favors would close, it was usually him coming up with timely rebounds that really helped us. The converse is the idea that he’s not a good defender and would get hunted for switches. It’s not ideal. There’s good and bad, but I think as an option farther down the list, bringing in Love is a move that, all things considered, does in fact push us up to the next step, and we’ll be a top three team in the West. Being able to jettison Exum in the process is like getting a discount on Love for the next two years.

Sign Russell to a near max deal.

Then trade Exum ($9.6), Korver (fully guaranteed $7.5), Bradley, Grayson and the rest of our cap space in a 3 team trade where Korver goes to the 3rd team, Cleveland gets a pick and Love comes to Utah.

Russell
Donovan
Ingles
Love
Gobert
O'Neale, #23, Crowder

Don't know if it's financially possible, but...

Russell ($27) + Love ($29) = $54

$33 in cap space + Exum ($9.6) + Korver ($7.5) + Bradley ($2) + Grayson ($2) = $51 million

Gotta be close
