Conley and Jabari or Love and Beverley. Those are the two deals.

I assume in both cases Rubio and Favors would have to be gone. A trade would likely take extra assets, but might not lock the Jazz up finance-wise as strongly, correct? A trade would also allow them to operate over the cap, right (though I'm a bit fuzzy on the benefits)?

I'm presuming there are enough FAs out on the market that the Jazz figure they could make up for some of the losses from a trade fairly cheaply, but trading would not allow them the moral victory of bringing home a top-flight free agent.

Anyway, kudos to anyone is willing to take the time to lay out the general landscape simply.

The differences are we can trade for someone whether they want to come to the Jazz or not, whereas FAs aren’t that interested in coming.

It sounds like it may be the other way around. If the Jazz pursue Russell or Harris it may be because they determine that they can't get Conley.

The difference is that if we make a trade, we have the MLE. If we go the FA route, all you have is the room exception. So that’s your team.
 
Conley would be good , contract and age is a concern .

I really like Dragic , I like his mentality , I think he would be a great fit here , just opted in ...

Jazz were after him before trade deadline

I think it's probably more that the Jazz have more certainty getting Conley. Waiting on Russell/Harris is too uncertain.

Could be (esp. if you're factoring the decision on Favors into it), though I'm not sure there's any more certainty in getting a trade done. It may be more about the timing.

If the timing made no difference, who do you think the Jazz prioritize? I'd probably go Conley, Harris, Russell, with Conley over Harris primarily because I think it may be easier to get adequate players to fill in around the rest of the team at PF/C than at PG.
 
I opened a box of basketball cards today. I announced that the first hit I pulled would be a card of the player the Jazz will acquire this summer. I pulled... are ya ready?... @LoPo cover your eyes and ears... a patch/auto Mike Conley. Can't be coincidence can it? Tis the will of the basketball gods. They have spoken.

I would only because the stigma of “It’s Utah” will linger. But as far as actual Conley. I think he’s nothing to be disappointed in. He will be great with Gobert in the pick n roll and can actually make the defense pay but hitting his shots. Plus he’s a good defender. I think Conley elevates the Jazz. Not my first choice but a good one.

I’m happy with any of Conley, Harris or Russell.
